Well anyways, it's called the dark side of the moon not because it's dark over there, but because it's unknown (It NEVER faces the Earth)

In fact, the first time we saw it was in 1959 when the Russians sent a satellite and it took pics.

If you're actually looking for an answer - it's only called the dark side of the moon because it's the side we never see from Earth, however, the sun will be behind the moon, at some point, therefore shining light onto the surface.
