It's arguable whether the current empire as of the game skyrim, should be considered the same empire as the one collapsing at the end of oblivion, as the bloodline has ended, provinces are seceding and there is internal strife.

Just because it's falling apart and is ruled by a different dynasty doesn't make it a different political entity in my opinion.

If the republican party in the USA suddenly kicked the clintons and obamas out (arguably, the 2 major families in the party) and changed their ideals and what they wanted, but still retained the name Democratic Party and still stayed in control of the USA.
Would they be the same political entity?
