i'm no native english speaker but damn i hurt myself reading that
That "an" is unsettling. I know it's grammatically correct but it sounds weird. Or is that just me?
It's grammatically incorrect.
"Used" starts with a "Yuh" sound, and in this case y is a consonant, so it should be "a used"
But U is a vowel. I thought the rule was that if the word started with a vowel, "an" is used regardless of the sound that letter makes in the word. Unless I'm wrong, which is completely possible.
It doesn't matter if the first letter is a vowel, it matters if the sound is from a vowel (which is hard to explain)
U is the only pure vowel that has this problem, since the long "u" sound phonetically begins with a y consonant (think of the word You)
For examples: "An Umbrella" is "an" because "umbrella" begins with the short u sound, phonetically a vowel sound. "A Urinal" is "a" because it begins with the long u sound, phonetically a consonant sound.
Jesus, English is a confusing language. It's constantly breaking it's own rules. Thanks, man.

There is little distinction there are different kinds of documentation, User Doc/Manual, Red Books, Tecnical Documentation, source comments. While source comment are clearly part of a coders job, a User Manual may be not.
