In Finland, the vet sends the deceased pet to be cremated, and then to some kind of pet cemetery.

Well, they might have to check for diseases, but mainly I was thinking they would be able to facilitate cremation, or whatever.
Perhaps, as someone mentioned below, there could be a call service to have the animal picked up, but having it laying around while you sit doing nothing would probably feel pretty upsetting, so the woman chose to preoccupy herself and take it manually.

They don't check to see what killed it unless you request a necropsy and 9/10 no one gives a shit. Unless it's a rabies case, then the head gets cut off and sent to the lab (it's the only way to test for rabies). You take your dog to the vet when it dies because it is illegal to bury it in your yard, in AZ anyway.

They have to make sure it wasn't something that could harm other people or animals.
