"what makes a great actress is how she performs" - Period

"What about when she's crying, laughing, reacting, improvising, monologuing, or you know, doing ANYTHING ELSE that actors and actresses do in movies?"
You're also forgetting the ability to EXPRESS something (an emotion, an idea), especially through the eyes/eye-contact.
Yeah, and all that has to be believable. Make you forget that you're watching an ACT. Make you believe that the person in front of you IS the character.
You know, basic acting stuff!

Or I'm sorry, but someone like SJ is not believable in any fucking way, under any figment of imagination.

Seriously, look up actual good movies with great actors/actresses. Grow some sense of standards.

P.S.: Oh, and since we're talking about believable performances - I really hope (wishful thinking tho) you're not of the DiCaprio fanboys that actually believes that man deserves an Oscar. No, he does not. Yes, he's a good actor - but at the same time it's also extremely visible for anyone with working synapses that he's TRYING TOO HARD. It's not a natural performance. Most of his "top notch moments" are visibly forced (cue the "Django" glass cut scene). Then compare it to someone like, IDK, Gary Oldamn - who's believable and natural in pretty much anything he does.

Yes, I have seen the shit JL was been in. And each and every time, not only is there absolutely no suspension of disbelief, but I just want to punch & kick her idiotic bovine mug over and over again - she literally has one of THE most "dumb pork" expressions I have ever seen.

And NO, she is not a great actress - maybe you should see movies with actual great actresses from time to time. And no, Mila Kunis or IDK what other recent starlette are NOT "great actresses".

What next, you're gonna tell me Ryan fucking Reynolds is actually brilliant, right?!
User avatar #117 - SuperHyperCrazy (3 hours ago) [-]
Dude, you keep mentioning other things. No one said anything about Mila Kunis. If we're going to talk about Jennifer Lawrence or Scarlett Johansson, let's stick to them, yeah?

Basically, what I'm gathering here is that, in your opinion, what makes a great actress is how she performs in moments where she needs to show suspension or disbelief? What about when she's crying, laughing, reacting, improvising, monologuing, or you know, doing ANYTHING ELSE that actors and actresses do in movies?

Furthermore, JLawrence has 2 Oscars. For absolutely no fucking reason whatsoever.
Fucking Sigourney Weaver, Julianne Moore or Audrey Tautou have no Oscars, yet apparently the Academy considers a zero-talent broad like JLaw to be 2x the actress those huge fucking legends are.

So don't give me that crap about "being nominated for", they'd be nominating a goddamn flower pot these days.
User avatar #114 - SuperHyperCrazy (10 hours ago) [-]
I'd like to point out that I did not once mention the Oscars; I disagree with the Academy half the time myself.
But have you seen the shit Jennifer Lawrence has been in? You're completely wrong to say that she has "zero talent," even from your standpoint. She's a great actress, and she wouldn't keep appearing in award-winning movies if she wasn't.
