Edward Snowden is a man who leaked government info to the public about the NSA's authority and willingness to search people's phone records and emails and other various private information. He fled to Hong Kong for a while but I believe he's headed towards Russia right now because it's unlikely Putin will expedite him due to US and Russia's poor current relationships. He's being charged with espionage for releasing this information.

then sold it to the chinese #traitor
#201 - anonymous poster (06/26/2013) [-]
Not... really. He revealed to an American and English journalist what the government was doing (collecting a shit ton of American internet information). It hit the news and the internet. He wanted his country to know that the government was breaking the fourth amendment and spying on all of us, and the only way to do that was to make it public through the media. He couldn't ONLY tell every American and keep the Chinese from seeing it.
#126 - admiralen (06/26/2013) [-]
he revealed they look at what you do on facebook google and youtube, those are all free, why do you care if the government checks your facebook anyway, its just stupid shit, he also fucking revealed classified information and squealed to china about hacking attempts etc, hes a deuchebag traitor, should be charged as one
#254 - hellspawner (06/26/2013) [-]
Oh. I didn't know the government owned Facebook. Their developers allow full "private" pages for a reason. The government has no reason to see what I did last weekend. Again, how can this country truly be free, if the government is keeping its all seeing eye on us?
#267 - hellspawner (06/27/2013) [-]
But what does the government have to do with that? They aren't spying on us to find out what we like to buy. The economy is so shitty right now nobody can really even buy anything. We just gave 300 million to Syrian rebels. That could've went to our education system to improve the quality of our education.
#269 - hellspawner (06/27/2013) [-]
Look what happened when we first supported the fucking Taliban- they became self aware and started attacking us. I couldn't possibly see how this could go wrong. Instead of the government getting involved in 3rd world country affairs, we need to focus on improving our quality of life instead. There are other countries out there who can do the same thing for Syria too.
#270 - admiralen (06/27/2013) [-]
>implying rebels improve anything
people who take the rule by force tend to stick by it by force, a good rebellion hasnt gone down even once, and before you start saying french or american, things were shit in those countries and they were forced to unite to fight other foes
#167 - anonymous poster (06/26/2013) [-]
And you should be charged with being a nigger AND a homosexsual, and for not being in prison where you belong.
Also, traitor loses it's strong meaning when you put a word like ''deuchebag'' in front of it, kiddo.
Might as well go ahead and just call him a poopy head, you fucking sissy.
#166 - rieskimo (06/26/2013) [-]
Spotted the NSA agent.
But seriously, fuck you. The reason why I'm concerned if the government is snooping on my facebook pages isn't because I want to keep my weekend outfit pictures a secret outside of my friend's group, it's because here in America we were guaranteed this little thing called the FOURTH FUCKING AMENDMENT YOU DAFT FUCKING TWAT!
The people of a country should never be afraid of its government, it should always be that the government is afraid of its people. They are in service to us, we pay the fucking bills and they better follow the fucking rules that we've all agreed to.
In case you're unclear of what the fourth amendment represents, it is the nifty little amendment that prevents cops from just breaking into your home or car or check your internet history. Any representative of the government or policing body needs to have reasonable cause and a search warrant to do so. If you think Snowden is a "deuchebag traitor" then you are a sad excuse for a citizen.
#178 - admiralen (06/26/2013) [-]
theyre not checking your internet history, hes a traitor, period.

I don't care if it's free or for money. It is MY information, it is MY life, and it is MY privacy. Just because you don't value YOUR privacy doesn't mean that you don't have a RIGHT to it.
If the government isn't playing fairly they deserve to have something like this happen.
You're fucking deluded.
I'm not paranoid that the government will find out what I do, I'm not that interesting. I'm more than fucking pissed that the government has overstepped lines and snooped in any way, and especially without "just cause".
If the government starts breaking its own rules it ceases to be a valid government. Why should they be allowed to detain those who break the law if they can't keep from breaking the law that they have been charged with upholding.
I just hope you never fucking vote.

Different anon, in case you wanted to know. Anyhow, I don't think that it's a bad thing that he let out "government information" because if they are getting our "personal information" then it is undoubtably through the same or at least similar means of someone underhandedly giving others access to it (in one case it may be a government agency being given access, in the other it's the public being given access to some things we wouldn't have otherwise). Because of how contracts/terms of agreement are worded these days, it's not unreasonable for the government being able to "put fears to rest" in a deceitful manner, because it's HIGHLY UNLIKELY for the contract to clearly state "government officials are archiving this shit you're posting".
An example I want to make: if you post something hateful about someone, and said person is murdered/thieved from/etc some time in the future, you could be pulled into the suspect list and have your life interrupted with pointless interrogation.
#225 - admiralen (06/26/2013) [-]
yeah, but in my country you can get shit for being an asshole on the internet anyway, what im trying to say is, the government isnt really doing anything wrong here, except maybe keeping it a secret, if you dont like this sort of thing dont hang on facebook, dont make a youtube account, dont use chrome etc
#168 - anonymous poster (06/26/2013) [-]
Well fucking spoken sir.

first of all, I'm not an American.
Secondly, these ARE global affairs. He revealed information showing that America has systematically gathered data not only on US citizens but on foreign nationals and hacked into computer networks and stole data from foreign governments.
Now Snowden is hiding in foreign countries applying for asylum to Iceland and Ecuador.
