yeah, but that guy on the right actually made that suit. He didnt buy it, you can find his vids on youtube.

lmao, I know cosplayer's who build costumes like that. It takes months, lots of free time, and more than a little bit of money, but it doesn't take a huge amount.
For the plastic (especially curved pieces) use cheepo plastic trash cans (which you cut and then heat them to mold it), right there you might spend 50 bucks for 90% of the plastic you need for the suit, then paint (maybe another 50), bam. Suit built. Granted he probably spent a few months on it, but there you go.

yeah, and for that you probably use real metal.
Granted, he might have used molding foam, which is a lot cheaper than buying the plastic and molding it (a lot faster too), and with the right paints you can make it look just like metal, but then it will barely last the first day of the convention.
Serious cosplayers (the ones that say they are "costumers") normally use plastic though, it lasts longer, holds paint better, and they can normally sell it after the con, with maybe a little touch up.
The girl I know who does cosplay is fucking bad ass. I'd post a picture, but well, I'm don't want to spread pictures of her around the net.
I'm too nice. Plus I want to tap that ass like an elder god smiting unbelievers.

oh fuck yeah. Just the cost of metal, let alone if you get a real smith to work on it, and really, you would for the wars. Just cause you're not really trying to kill each other doesn't mean the 200+ pounds of force that sword has behind it when it hits your breastplate wont fucking kill you if your armor fails.

Fuck yeah, I'm a trained swordsman (mostly eastern arts, but zweihanders have a special place in my heart) and I know what you are talking about. People don't realize that even a blunted sword is fucking lethal. Hell, the vikings used swords that were forged blunt as their off hand weapon, part club, part blocking tool, part shield breaker.

naw, its a strength but it's also a weakness (which is how I could see your king holding on that long), because you are moving so fast with a katana that you have to commit yourself to every attack 10000%, so if you fuck up in the slightest you are screwed.
Although a kiteshield gives you a large defensive advantage, and offensive if you know how to attack with that shield.
#184 - blahdudeblah (11/22/2012) [-]
The point I was making is that with katana fights, you are moving so fast that if you fuck up, you generally don't have a chance to recover. Thats why I'm saying the katana user didn't know what he was doing. Most western sword arts teach "dances" or longer combinations that can go for 50+ moves, most katana arts are 20ish, maybe more for the dances that are meant to teach you how to move from strike to block to strike (ect), but for actual combat combos/dances you are looking at teens at most, simply because of the speed at which you are fighting.
Hence why samurai all learned Ito (probably misspelled) a sword art that taught them to use as few moves as possible, thus limiting the chances of them making a mistake, as well as teaching them to capitalize on any mistakes their enemy makes

huh. short sword? definitely not how it was meant to be used, but with the right sheath I could see the torque giving him an edge.
But he could probably get a faster draw from holding the sheath in his off hand, but he probably uses a kite shield for his off hand (or at least a round shield of some kind), right?
gotta love kite shields, if you know how to use them. Almost a better weapon than a sword.
#174 - blahdudeblah (11/22/2012) [-]
also that meant the katana guy probably didn't know what he was doing. Samurai fights typically lasted no longer than a minute. Basically they'd go at it and one of them would fuck up, and, well, your first fuck up was normally your last. Unless you were just that lucky.

meh, over the shoulder can be useful (with larger blades, at least a greatsword), but the katana's draw strike from the hip, or held in the off hand, will always beat it for speed. Especially in the hands of someone who actually knows battojitsu (probably misspelled) or itojitsu (probably misspelled too).

they are fast, strong, and if you know how to use them can go toe to toe with any blade in the world.
The key is in the grip though, too many wapanese fags don't know how to grip it right, plus most people don't realize how essential footwork is. Especially with bigger blades (zweihanders make me happy in my pants).
