I was raised on oldies, and I still listen to them often. I like at least some music from almost every genre, except country. I guess I like dubstep for the same reason a lot of people hate it, it's just really busy, loud, strange, and different sounding. When I first heard it I kept listening just for the ridiculousness of it, but I ended up finding some really good music out of it. It grows on you I guess. Just look at Elvis. Everyone over age 25 hated that guy when he first started.

your last point is exactly what im saying. elvis helped spark the rock genre, and got a lot of hate from it, then rock was the biggest genre for generations sparking different branches of it. same thing is happening here. 20 or so years from now people will look back at skrillex and dubsteo and all the other artists and talk about how they founded a generation of music.

I know it is certainly harder to write and read sheet music, which a lot of modern musicians DON'T do, but at the same time you could argue that Skrillex is doing something pretty challenging himself, because he is coming up with every part for every instrument/sample/sound on each track, whereas your typical band has each member writing his own part for his own instrument.

I like it. Most people don't. As long as you actually listen to it before you make the call, I don't care if anyone dislikes it.

i get what you're saying. both examples you have to put forth an effort to prepare it. in both cases it would be about the same amount of effort, but then when you perform the finished product, the band playing it live has a harder job then the one man basically pressing the play button on a mac. the age of instruments and true rock and roll is dying, bringing forth a new generation of music. this genre of skrillex and dubstep is probably the new generation, and this is just the awkward transfer period where the rock and roll die hards are still supporting the classics and raising they're kids on it, thats what happened to me my parents raised me on classic rock. eventually more and more people will start to embrace this new generation of music. but there will always be the die hard rockers, and everyone has a rock song they love or at least they dont hate. some skrillex i dont mind, i dont like it but i dont hate it. i can tolerate skrillex and dubstep and rap music, but it doesnt mean i'll be listening to it all the time.

I agree, I would never go see any EDM artist in concert. Windows media player can do the same thing for me, and it doesn't cost me anything, and I don't have to deal with a a massive crowd of d-bags.

He's only pushing play on a computer, but keep in mind the hours of work it takes to put those songs together.

Like I said, if you've actually listened to it, and don't like it, that don't hurt my feelings. Maybe you just haven't heard the good stuff. At least you aren't just making a blind (deaf?) judgement, like most of the critics.
User avatar #110 - Senior Bob (07/30/2012) [-]
exactly. to me music is something you can play on a piano or guitar. granted skrillex does use synthesizers to acquire the sound of a piano or orchestra but never the less it isnt the real thing. i doubt i can go to a music store and find a skrillex sheet music book. sure putting together 'music' on a computer is difficult, but having to actually write lyrics, guitar music, bass music, a drum beat and any other instrument involved is a lot harder. just my opinion i know im not to post my opinion especially if it goes against another persons opinion. i apologize if i got you butthurt
