I watched some guy online by the stage name Plinkett review the trilogy for about five hours. It was very entertaining, but to sum it up these are the main problems I can remember. The first one is that almost everything is computer generated, and there is barely any makeup, animatronics, or actually locations they shot at. To my understanding, literally everything was shot on a sound stage, and there wasn't a single shot that didn't have some sort of CGI. It was also not really a space adventure, as it focused on space politics that actually didn't make sense. The writing was really lame, no one has any character at all, and every scene of people talking is done while they either sit or stand, and sometimes walk, and it is always in shot-reverse shot. The choreography is a lot more complicated, but none of that matters when they're really isn't any emotion to the fights. Darth Maul was a fucking terrible character, along with just about everyone else. To really illustrate why I say they're so fucking terrible, I challenge you to describe their character without saying what they look like, what their job was, or anything physical, just describe their character. Han Solo had a character you could describe, he's arrogant, cocksure of himself, he's a womanizer, he's superficial, but he's a thief with heart of gold, and proves to be a loyal friend. Now describe Qui Gon Gin, or Queen Amidalla. I can't do it. They also did a good job of fucking up a good bit of the lore, and are just another pillar to add to Hollywood's fetish for origin stories. They made the force something scientific, thus making Yoda look like an asshole for acting like it was mystical. They make Anakin seem like a whiny bitch who was tricked into joining the dark side, instead of an "old friend" who was seduced by the power of the dark side. I could go on, but I won't. But I could.

I would argue they are terrible, would you like to tell me why you think they weren't bad?

Because I enjoyed them when they came out, and so did most everyone else until someone decided that a whiny kid from the desert who can't act well (Both Anakin and Luke) and annoying comic relief characters (Jar-Jar and the Ewoks) were suddenly the ultimate affronts to the Star Wars universe.

They also have the perk of being more recently made, and thus have cooler battle scenes.

Objectively they might not be good movies, but as far as being Star Wars movies they aren't bad at all.

You're supposed to feel bad about Alderaan because it was where Leia was raised. Considering they blew it up and explained that was where she was from in the original trilogy that whole arc should already be covered for you.

They underdeveloped villains because ultimately Darth Vader was supposed to be the villain. It would detract from him if Maul were still kicking around. Yeah he should have had a bit more, but really compare him to Boba Fett and you don't find much difference. It wouldn't make sense to have Obi-wan's own struggles with the dark side be what sends Anakin down that path. The whole story is about Anakin's personal descent, spurred by the things that happen to him, not what happens to Obi-wan. Again, it would have detracted from where their focus was.

Yes they are. They're really crappy movies.
