thats not the same gun as the one in the picture
User avatar #9 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
It's probably inspiration for that picture drawn above. Also, saying that the russians wouldn't manufacture a rifle in an american cartridge is like saying they don't sell Vepr's .223, or SV-98 in 7.62 NATO.
#10 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
I recognize the fact that many manufacturers cross that line, however, its fairly unlikely. and also the 12.7x55 isn't the 50 Beowulf due to a difference in the bolt face diameter and the length, 55mm vs 42mm.
#11 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
No, but it functions, and is in similar size as the .50 beowolf. If you look it has a similar bottom diameter of the case as the 7.62 soviet.
#12 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
I honestly have no idea what you are trying to convey to me at this point, of course the beowulf is similiar to the 7.62x39, the bolt faces are identical for compatability reasons.
User avatar #13 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
The why wouldn't the russians use the .50 beuwolf?
#14 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
Its a mainly NATO affiliated round, its like the USA using ak-47's, it probably wouldn't happen.
Also, they wouldn't bother using the Beowulf since they already have the 12.7x55 cartridge.
User avatar #15 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
I'm just saying, it seems pretty straight forward seeing the cartridge base is a similar size to the 7.62X39. I don't see an AK-47 not being modified for it. And not saying that the carbine in the picture is Russian.
#16 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
I'm not saying its impossible(to have an ak-47 in 50Beo), just that the gun in OP's picture is fake/not working.
The 50 Beowulf was made to be fired from an ar-15 platform as well.
User avatar #17 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
Oh, and have to not thought that the barrel isn't the full thickness of the foreend, making it possible that the safely may actually work?
#18 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
there is not a single gun on the planet with a safety selector and trigger group built around the barrel.
Also, the barrel is in the wrong place if one actually wanted to put a round into the chamber.
User avatar #19 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
It doesn't wrap around the barrel, it probably just comes down then under to the trigger.
#20 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
if anywhere, the safety and trigger group and selectoris in the rear of the gun near the firing assembly.
Also, a selector switch is on a pin that travels across the entire gun. meaning in OP's picture, that pin would go through where the barrel should be.
User avatar #21 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
Think of the possibilities. Because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it hasn't been done.
#22 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
i feel like you're just trolling me now.
guns just don't work like that.
it doesn't matter what you or I think.
User avatar #23 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
No, i'm not trolling, I'm OP btw. The safety could be held by something other than a pin that doesn't make contact with the barrel and shifts a line that comes down and under the barrel to disconnect the psuedo trigger.
#24 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
Even If it did, ignoring all principles of gun design since John Moses Browning, that doesnt change the fact that the barrel, chamber and bolt face don't line up, rendering the gun useless.
User avatar #27 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
Well it seems I can't reply to your last post, but the line you drew kinda drifts a little down, so I don't see how the bolt wouldn't line up.
#28 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
there are still an inch apart or so, a couple centimeters.
Anyway, you've argued your point well, and I appreciate your patience and demeanor.
I have to go now, so take all my thumbs for being someone that doesn,t blow up in an inter net argument.
User avatar #25 - ScottishMinor (06/06/2013) [-]
I could see a modified bolt being used. I mean if you have knowledge and the problem solving I don't see how any gun wouldn't be made to work.
User avatar #29 - talosknight (06/07/2013) [-]
Rety's right, your ejection port is too far forward, which in any attempt to fire this gun more than once would cause it to jam. I also don't think, assuming even seriously screwed gun designing, you could get that safety working. An appropriate barrel size, actually would have that safety drilled into the side of the barrel.
#26 - rety (06/06/2013) [-]
LEts pretend the most heavily modified bolt is used, and it now magically lines up with barrel and chamber.

Even then, the ejection port is out of line, rendering the gun a one shot deal, as the gun cannot eject to allow another round to be fed.

$3 per car load isn't bad, but wear and tear on my car is an issue, so when the shooting range near my house ($7 per person shooting) gets built I'm still gonna use my back yard. lol

For this guy, it might be worth the money or trip. shooting a gun is just too much fun to never do it.
first time go for .22lr, .22 mag, 9mm, .410, 380acp, etc little calibers.
