If you have someone you trust or who thinks like you, it doesn't hurt to have a second pair of eyes look over it. It may help you

Yeah, thanks for the advice. I had considered it, but not only am I extremely self-concious with people looking over my work (slightly backwards for this scenario, I know) but I also don't know that the people reading it would be completely honest. For example, I can see them just giving it the old "smile and nod" when I'd really need honest criticism. Definitely something I will work on though, for both scenarios.

Tbf right now it's more of a free-time thing. I have a lot of downtime at work, which led me to daydream little scenarios, and before long I had a basic plot worked out. I ended up writing it out bit-by-bit at work on the sly, and writing it up when I got home, so I still have a LONG way to go before I'm anywhere near the completed stage anyway. Plenty time to get over myself and sort it out.!

I love it, actually. I normally read over the last few pages I've written before I begin a new one. Or read the last chapter before beginning the next. It helps keep things fluid. My advice is to not be too critical of yourself when you read - it's just a first edition - so don't be too zealous on getting it perfect the first time.

Ah, good to know. I'll just have to get over it, I think. Don't think I'll ever love it as you do, but maybe I can deal with it in time.

I have friends!

Not too bad, shouldn't complain really. Trying to get a foot in the door of what I wanna do career-wise is hard, but it's a start. Got a job, a roof over my head, and someone to come home to, so it's definitely going better than it could be.

What about you?

Eh, hectic life, but I remain optimistic. Currently going to college, studying criminal justice, very close to transferring to a university, from there majoring in forensics. I love helping people in any way I can, so it's always modeled what I do. To make a long story short, when I was 15 I was told I had 3 months to live due to my horrible spine disease, but I lived thanks to emergency surgery. 6 years later, I am in pain 24/7 (no joke, 6 years of straight pain I've forgotten what 'no pain' feels like) but I've realized how lucky I am just to wake up in the morning, and have a loving family & friends. My friends constantly come to me for help/advice, or just in need of someone to listen, and I never turn them down. I tell new friends this, so they realize 1) they have someone to talk to if needed, and 2) Life really isn't so bad.

tl;dr Life is good, no matter how dark it seems it always gets better, so no worries.

Wow, I really wish I had your outlook on life! I know it's mainly modelled off what's happened in your life, but still.. I've had depression since I was like, 13. I learnt to live with it and hide it, but it was crippling. Thankfully I'm getting better now, so I can focus more on what, but how much easier would life be if I had your mindset, seriously?

Ps your gif is fabulous.

I'm glad it's getting better for you, I'd be lying if I said I didn't know how depression feels. You've had it since you were 13 though? I couldn't imagine that, what happened? If you don't mind me asking.

Ps yeah that gif is my favorite, you can tell it doesn't know what's happening, but it sure as hell feels fabulous.

I actually don't really remember. I say 13, it may have been a little later, or earlier. I've had depression pretty much as long as I can recall. I can only presume it was a buildup of things. Feeling second best, family deaths, social anxiety + very few friends and such. No doubt a lot of the things which get me down are a case of just getting over it, but when all these things build up they really weigh you down.
