The handles make a Nazi symbol. I feel it's also worth mentioning that it's gas.

The whole thing is banning certain types of guns purely on the basis that they look like military weapons. Assault Weapons Ban really banned magazine-fed rifles from having two or more of a:
-folding stock (because making a gun 6" shorter makes it 1000000X as deadly...)
-pistol grip (because it....looks...deadly...I guess)
-bayonet lug (Practically trillions of crimes are committed with bayonets each eon)
-integral grenade launcher (seriously. Because so many guns have these.)
-muzzlebreak (it just reduces recoil and muzzle flash. That's it. Not a silencer or anything)
The problem is that these guns are very common and popular, and taking them away means that we lose the products that have been made to modify them and make them more enjoyable to use, that are only developed for these rifles because they are so common. It is like if 60% of people in pokemon used zubats, and they were made illegal (not the best metaphor, but just bear with me).
To buy a gun you must fill out a form 4077 Firearms Transfer form. the gun shop owner takes it to his computer and background checks you for criminal record and mental instabilities.
The thing about those "high-powered rifles" is that the rounds an AR-15 uses are actually pretty low power. They aren't really sufficient for most game bigger than a mid-sized deer, and the military finds them to be lacking.

"high power" is misleading. the ar15 uses one of the smallest calibers available. it isn't even legal for deer hunting in most states because it is too small to kill effectively

does it matter if 20 people die individually or at once? no
#187 - exploiterguyone (01/25/2013) [-]
It's just a culture thing- we have long had firearms, and shooting is a very popular, stress-relieving sport. Hunting is also a big part of many American's lives (yes, we do use magazine-fed semiautomatics to hunt, unlike many politicians would have you believe). We just don't think it's fair that people are pre-criminalizing us when shooting actually is one of the safest sports- comparable injury rates to table tennis.

Granted, most people don't die from ping-pong, and it is easier to kill many people with a gun than a baseball bat, but the average number of shots fired in a gun crime is 3.2. If people want to murder a lot of people, they can make a bomb for a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a gun. We gun owners merely believe that if you take the guns out of the hands of all citizens, the people most harmed are those who follow the law and use guns for sport, food, or protection.

Now, is this whole thing about banning firearms or just to control it's traffic? I'm aware that a lot of you guys are good people and actually use firearms just as protection...but I also think that is really dangerous to allow almost anyone to have a high-powered rifle...I don't know if there's some sort of psychological test (or any kind of test) that you need to pass in order to buy a gun. That's what concerns most people outside the US, at least here in Mexico.
