I agree, it didn't hold the charm of fallout 3.
Most of the scenery in the mojave honestly looked like arizona/nevada looks. The rundown shacks aren't even that far from the truth in a lot of cases.
And the guns were fun, but made it all way too easy. The antimaterial with explosive ammo would kill damn near everything in a single shot, excluding the deathclaw alphamales and deathclaw mother or whatever it was called.
and it just didn't have any real drive behind it. I can see the motivation to kill benny. But you have damn near no reason to care what happens at the damn. No matter who wins, there will still be a need for couriers.
Fallout 3, on the other hand, was amazing. The guns were never overpowered, or if they were ammo was extremely limited and hard to come by. The storyline had real drive to it; you were after your father, and then you were avenging his death, as well as aiding everybody living in the capital wasteland. The land itself looked much more apocalyptic as well. Broken buildings, radioactive waters everywhere, collapsed bridges everywhere.
And, to top it all off, new vegas never got nearly as creepy as fallout 3 did. The dunwich building alone wins that.

Most of my drive came from helping the NCR achieve victory in the Mojave. Also, guns never overpowered / powerful guns' ammo hard to come by in Fallout 3? Tell that to my A3-21's Plasma Rifle and the several thousand Micro Fusion cells I had for it. Or my Assault Rifle with more than enough ammo to take down the entire Enclave ten times over. Hell, even the mini nukes weren't all that rare if you knew what you were doing. That's what it boils down to; if you know your stuff, ammo and armor are never hard to come by. That being said, I can agree that Fallout 3 was overall better than New Vegas, but New Vegas had a more polished feel to it. It's the gameplay that Fallout 3's story deserved.

The entire thing is that New Vegas was the true Fallout 3, Obsidian has a lot of the old interplay guys that made Fallout 1 and Fallout 2.
Not to mention that if you played on a high difficulty, the guns acted a lot like the ones in Fallout 3.
I liked the story better, you literally were put in this world and only told "This guy tried to kill you, go after him" whereas in Fallout 3 half the game is just finding your dad and then he dies, why would you keep going, your drive is now gone, there isn't even a 'bad" ending, es you can put the stuff in the purifier, but really, I would like to actually help the enclave.
Fallout 3 just wasn't that fun, not to mention the game mechanics added in New Vegas were a lot funner, gambling, ammo making, camp fires, etc.

Yeah, you ARE right there. So many places in fallout 3 were hard as hell to navigate, or blocked off in general. And yeah, I think the map might have been a bit smaller.
But, to me, the navigation and dead ruins just completed the experience.
New vegas had much better addons, thats for sure. The overarching plot of Ulysses.
I honestly wouldn't mind if they made a game about Ulysses or the Great Divide itself.

My first time playing fallout 3 I didn't know you had to go through the metro's to get through places. I died so many times by super mutants trying to get to Three Dog's Radio tower without using the metro lol; which I know now it's impossible.
And I hated the damn metro's and their ghouls. So yeah fallout 3 was so much harder to navigate through. You can just walk through the mojave and get to new vegas so quickly.

F3 is more of a maze, but there are certain areas of the Mojave you simply don't enter unless you are strong enough, you don't go through the quarry, the entire western quarter strip of the map, the eastern quarter of the strip, the southern portion or into passes unless you are well equipped.
