Steroids can cause weight gain (and yes steroids can be a prescribed medicine for blood disorders etc)

I have a kid in my school that has to take something like that, I think there's something wrong with his organs so he has to take something that protects them, but it builds mass and because he isn't the most active kid, he never loses the mass he gains so he just gets bigger and bigger.

Anything that messes with your thyroid is going to have effects on your weight. Medications that make you unable to exercise, or in some cases move, will definitely have an effect on your weight. Any medication dealing with your Gastrointestinal track can have effects on weight as well.

That's kinda like saying "Your body can't properly break down foods, and release them and instead stores them as fat, but its still your fault for being overweight" or "A compromised immune system will lead to an increase in sickness, but the virus/bacteria/airborn pathogens have to be there in order to make a person sick".

Gaining weight on a 700 calorie diet can happen. Losing weight on a 4000 calorie diet can happen. Saying that either of these are the persons fault would be ridiculous. There's clearly something wrong under the hood.

some thyroid medicine? I've met girls who this happened to, they were actually really petite as a kid that i can actually believe it since they gained massive amount of weight and is actually a bigger person in general.

Steroids don't make you fat, they increase your appetite. And it's commonly your thyroid that causes crazy changes in your weight. Unless your thyroid is inflamed, they won't prescribes steroids for that. It's almost certainly shenanigans. You're more likely to meet someone with schizophrenia than an uncontrollable illness that causes weight gain (not necessarily related to your thyroid, it was just an example).

tl;dr - Almost all of the fat people you see have no excuse. Poor diet, little exercise.

Yeah, tell that to my step-brother who died of muscular dystrophy. He got very fat at the end and his diet was strictly controlled because of his inability to feed himself.

That's terrible. I understand that there can be uncontrollable causes for weight gain, but in most cases it's a case of "you're lazy and eat too much".
