I know this is a joke, but really? You are nit picking the time system? What in the literal fuck? Its like a first grade mud slinging fight between countries. I, for one don't give two shits if its 17/11/2014 , 11/17/2014 or 2014/11/17, its down right petty.
User avatar #22 - newtamalego (11/17/2014) [-]
Basically America tried to do everything different than everyone else, and see how well it worked.
#18 - anonymous (11/17/2014) [-]
That only works when you're so stupid that you define the pyramid under the assumption that day/month/year is the proper structure in the first place.
#20 - anonymous (11/17/2014) [-]
so you're implying a year is shorter than a day?
#28 - politetroll (11/17/2014) [-]
To make it makes sense if you think of it as 12 months in a year, 28-31 days in a month, then any number for the year, so it goes from the smallest to biggest that way
User avatar #41 - thorstoned (11/17/2014) [-]
I guess you have a point, but it also makes sense to add a day at the time, and each time you hit a full mont, you go one left to add a month, and same from month to year
#25 - anonymous (11/17/2014) [-]
If I was gonna look up something by the date, it's most likely that I would know the year it's from. It's less likely that I would know the month, and even less likely that I would know the day. Therefore, for the purpose of storing data based on date, Europe has it completely backwards and the U.S. has it kind of backwards.
User avatar #24 - itstuesday (11/17/2014) [-]
or he's implying that a year is more important than a day
#38 - anonymous (11/17/2014) [-]
But it's obviously not, in every day life if someone asks you a date you'll completely leave the year out, with the day being the most important is it is far more specific than the month.

Pyramid goes shortest amount of time to the longest because it makes perfect sense. Pedantic artists producing retarded pyramids don't produce good arguments.
#59 - anonymous (11/17/2014) [-]
"Pedantic artists producing retarded pyramids don't produce good arguments."
That's the point. You can't just arbitrarily make a pyramid and claims it proves your point idiot.
The short bus pyramid is always spread around as proof that Europe isn't stupid.
Year/Month/Day, Day/Month/Year, Month/Day/Year, all have their uses.

y/m/d is best for record keeping, you're focusing in on a certain date, but for daily use, everyone will know the year already.
For daily use you just say the day, not the month or the year.
For documents, you can either say day/month/year, or month/day/year.
d/m/y is good in situations where everyone already knows the month, but it starts with an absolutely meaningless number 1-31, which gives no context, making it worse when looking at longer periods of time.
m/d/y starts with month, immediately giving context (season, events), but does not give an exact moment immediately.

Australia reporting in for comment.

To say the same date you did, we say "The 16th of October, 2014".
#11 - ultradar (11/16/2014) [-]
I am from britland. If I say a date, I'll say something like "November 16th." However typed/written is "16/11/14"
User avatar #12 - Snookbone (11/16/2014) [-]
I think we're starting to say that because of increasing globalisation, especially American pop culture. Most people in Britain still say "16th of November". Not a complaint, just an observation
#48 - kristofe (11/17/2014) [-]
even in america it varies people can say 16th of November or November 16
