The Radicals in the Japanese government were prepared to sacrafice every single person rather than surrender, even going to the extent of arresting Emporer Hirohito to prevent him from surrendering. The U.S. Army estimated the casualties of invading Japan would be upward one million people. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few here, and I don't think WE are the ignorant ones here. Hey MORON how about looking up the facts first?
1. We gave Japan A FUCKING YEAR to surrender.
2. We had no clue about the devastating effects a nuke could bring.
3. We were there within the week helping them out with doctors, nurses, and cleaning up the radiation.
4. People live there now
5. They didn't surrender after we dropped the first nuke.
6. They weren't majorly populated cities.

regardless Japan attacked a country that was not at war with anyone only because they wanted control of the Pacific, it was there greed that cost them, though i do understand that innocent lives should not be lost for war.

Casualty estimations for continuing the island hopping campaign were about 1 million american servicemen and a similar number of japanese. Collateral damage would have also been immense. Pearl harbor had many civilians as well. However, the japanese military blended its bases in to the major cities, so bombing them also meant bombing people. Not saying two nukes were the right choices, but they didnt just drop them on whimsy to display force.
