They really needed to save storage space while making the early pokemon games; so they'd use a storage unit of 8 spaces, holding 1-F 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F in each spot.

Therefore, to determine how many of each item you had, they'd use two spaces of a byte per item; so a memory storage location would like like [01020304] and that'd say you have "01" pokeballs, "02" Greatballs, "03" Ultraballs, and "04" masterballs. This allowed two spaces to hold up to 256 different values, and why there was a max of 255 of each item (with 0 being the last value.)

Hard coded in was an index of the reference numbers for each item; so it would alphabetically go though each potential item, and in the bytes would have a reference number for each one so for an example, we'll say that a Burn Heal was "A4" while a Moon Stone was "4B" Not sure on actual references but these will work here.

The reference spot for a moon stone could look like [A4B00000], so the code for the moon ball was

If (target).evolves with item offset by 1, work; if the item 4B, or a moon stone, work.

but instead, they used If (target).evolves with item offset by 0, work; If the item A4, or a burn heal, work.

it wouldnt be hard to fit a nuclear reactor on a space vessel. the problem is food and force acceleration. the probes and rovers that we send out to other planets and moons undergo burns that exert extreme acceleration forces. it would kill a person. so there's this problem of time. i think the quickest we can make it to mars is something like 4 years. thats just unimaginable in terms of resources and human endurance.

The best way to make it to mars requires extreme luck; Plot a path to a comet head, and then use the ice as propellant (powered by a nuclear reactor) you can approach ridiculous speeds - though it still would be a long time to make it to mars.
