Perhaps you'll forgive me for saying so, but that's kinda weak, man.

If you're against something, don't make exceptions because people you know are into it. They didn't bring it up with you because they knew you didn't approve, and they respected your opinion and didn't want you to think less of them, or didn't want to get into it with you. They accepted your opinion, even if they did not share it, but you instead changed your opinion because you didn't want them to get offended, or some such thing.

I don't like cigarettes, everyone I know for the most part smokes. Hate the idea of drugs (Yes, that includes weed), know plenty of people who do it. They know my stance on it, and they accept it. Just as I accept that my stance isn't going to change their view of it, and my pot-smoking buddies aren't going to just go "Oh, RAAMageddon doesn't like pot? Better go cold-turkey." I listen to their shit even though I don't want to hear it, and they listen to my opinion even if they don't share it.

You may be a little out of context, anyhow. I think in the OP, we're talking more about cold, hard facts. Like, for instance, lots of people who smoke weed say there's absolutely no harmful effects on your body. Hypothetically, if a test was run that showed, absolutely clearly, that it caused brain damage, then most of them would cling to "No it doesn't! It's healthy!" like the Catholic Church clings to gay marriage being wrong. (I'm not supporting or bashing it in this case, pure example.) In theory, they should change their view based upon "new information," but they'd stick to their guns and keep saying that's not true.

I'm not trying to bash you in any way, shape, or form with this, don't get me wrong. But I do think it's lame to change your opinion to... Not "Fit in," but perhaps "Become accepted," for lack of a better term coming to mind.

hahaha i didn't change my opinion because i wanted to be "accepted" they all accepted me anyways.. i changed my opinion because i wasn't aware that so many people i know actually smoke and they aren't any different because of it. i had the idea that if you smoked pot, you were a lazy stoner that didn't do shit with your life.. that wasn't the case at all

I'm against it because I saw first hand a ton of people who smoke weed on a daily basis and have never gotten anywhere with their life. Out of all the people i know who smoke very very VERY few of them have actually gone on to do something positive. Like less than 5% of the people. I'm talking an entire town too

i have two self made millionaire uncles and an aunt that smoke, my friend with a full ride scholarship because he is literally a genius smokes, family friends of mine that are in the DEA and on drug task forces have the opinion that it should be legalized. i've personally seen more people fuck up their lives with alcohol opposed to marijuana

I'm not saying weed is the worst drug out there there are plenty of other addictions out there that are extremely worse. Plus the people I'm talking about were daily smokers not "oh I smoked once and now I own a company 20 years later"

I don't mind anyone smoking, so long as they keep the smoke away from me.

That said, I can't help but associate smoking with weak-mindedness, seeing as peer-pressure and looking cool are the only reasons anyone does it these days.

unless you're in high school, people don't smoke to look cool.. for the most part, everyone i know smokes but keeps it to themselves. i only know because i'm rude, if i have a hunch, i just straight up ask people if they smoke and they usually give me a straight answer

But why do they smoke? Or rather, when and why did they start smoking?

i changed my opinion on weed after i found out that a handful of my family members and a couple buddies that i've hung out with for years were smokers..-- MythBuster, 2013

I missed out the word "weed" for some reason, and then afterwards everything went to "pot".

Well that's a totally different issue. I've yet to try weed but I've done my research on the subject and it's pretty clear that it should be legalised.

check out The Union, it's a really well done documentary. it states why it was criminalized in the first place and everything else about pot.. a lot of good opinions in it
