makes sense. although one could argue the safety feature the other way in case of an emergency. If the door opens outward it could slow fire fighters or police down who are trying to get into the house, ie it would be harder to kick it through the door frame.
appreciate the info

I have never encountered a front door that opens out instead of in.

This actually should be in the USA building code because it is in the Canadian one. Doors need to open inwards for security reasons.
If you open the door to someone and they try to force their way into your home it is much easy to prevent this with an In-ward opening door than an Out-ward opening door.
Also, If you have an out-ward opening door the hinge would have to be on the side that it opens to, meaning that the hinges to your door would be on the outside. Take a screwdriver and a hammer and knock out the pin connecting the two flanges and you can remove a door even if it is locked.
If you have an exterior door opening externally your house was built by people who didn't know what they were doing.

Good to know you and your neighbors will be safe.
See doors are supposed to open IN so nothing can fall against the door from the outside, obstructing your path out in case of emergency

i live in kentucky, same here, as well as in cincinnati.

Doors opening inwards is a possible fire hazard
I can't remember where it was (Kent, I think) but the doors opened inwards and their was a fire. Everyone piled up against the door and nobody could get out.
Sorry just dropping some knowledge if you even care

Doubtful you'll read this, but fire codes usually have doors open outwards for malls, hospitals, large buildings, in which yes, if there is a panic pile up, people will get pushed out slowly.
In something like a house, with a maximum of say, 32 people, at a REALLY insane party or social gathering, if they cant figure out how to get out then. Well, I wouldnt say they deserved it, but it's not too hard.

the regulations for public buildings are indeed that every outside door should be outwards. you can say it's for stupid people, but yes stupid people use public buildings too. Plus in case of danger (e.g. fire) in a public building most people don't know this buidling very well, so the way out has to be as easy as possible to safe lives

I live in Michigan and my doors and everyone elses doors I've ever been to open inward.

Well seeing as there will be world peace and a lot of new technologies came about because of war. The pressure put onto governments and military forced them to work harder and discover new technologies to use against the enemy. World peace would be good but the technological drawback would take significantly longer to recover from.

I'm with you Mutador, my family didn't have a television until i was about 12... then all of a sudden my whole family got tv's and computers and we've just joined the pop culture in the last 7 years... I had no idea what this was from and asked the same question of why Lily was there, these guys are thumbing you down for a legitimate question, I support you.
