Well I always thought the right way to play chronologically speaking was BBS -KH1 -Chain of Memories -358/2 -KH2 -coded -DDD, however, the problem is some of the ending cutscenes in BBS will skip past KH2 and basically just confuse you if you never played KH2 and KH1 espcially if you are playing BBS Final Mix. I think 358/2 does the same thing, but it's been so long since I played it. But 358/2 and chain of memories takes place around the same time, but it really helps to play 358/2 after chain of memories. But if you played them all already or most of them, it really helps to play them again in the order I mentioned

Here is an overlapping timeline of the games.

I'd do the series in this order:
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
Re:Chain of Memories (Or at least the cut scenes)
358/2 Days (Or at least the cut scenes)
Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix
Birth By Sleep (I'm still just watching the cutscenes.)
Kingdom Hearts 3

(I haven't gotten around to Re:Coded or Dream Drop Sequence so I can't tell how important they are to the story. You can shove those inbetween KH3 and BBS if you really want to watch them.)

It is not so much me confusing it, but moreso the player confusing it, as the GM I have little say in how the player acts. Generally when this stuff does happen it usually is better to not restrict the player from making a choice out of their alignment because it can actually cause a shift in their alignment, some prestiges in the tabletop genre even require you to break your alignment ties.

Basically the way I view it is, I don't want people to be completely tied down by their alignment, every so often I allow a Lawful Good to make an evil decision if they so choose. Especially when they're tied down to a decision of killing that one party member who refuses to do the good side of things or just going with the flow, it just allows more variety and uniqueness to the style of play being performed. Most of the time other characters in the party treat the lawful good as a joke because they think they won't be harmed.

So it's always nice to see the lawful good character to step out of line sometimes since it puts the other characters on edge.

And I don't argue against the fact my views on morality is warped, from what you can tell I have a pretty fucked up representation on how morality works from a technical point of view. However I would be more than happy to point the blame to the participants of my sessions, but in the long run all I can do is smile and laugh at the stupidity of it all because in the end, it's just a game and we're having fun. Which is what satisfies me enough in a session.

User avatar #10 - MrDeadiron (02/03/2015) [-]
You're confusing Lawful Good with loyal to their God. A character's morality is determined by their actions or lack their of, not by their religion. Going by your previous and current train of thought ISIS would be considered Lawful Good when in reality they are Lawful Evil bordering on Chaotic Evil.

I think the main issue is that the alignment system for a player is generalised by a lot of games and other factors in the previous and current releases of games and tabletops. Majority of GMs usually stick very heartfelt to the strict alignment rules, the actual alignment combinations having very specific rulesets defining how a player should act when aligned to this, which is another reason why people pick true Neutral and chaotic Neutral, as someone who GMs I have only had one Lawful Good Paladin, in a party of chaotic neutral and evil rogues/barbarians.

The reason why GMs adore Lawful Good players is because they're the ones who generally don't screw shit up. Many GMs become too attached to their "NPCs" and because of this it causes a gap between players and the GM due to the chaotic neutral and evil players trying to destroy any hope of control the GM has.

However if you learn anything as a GM it's that if you run a party with atleast one chaotic player, shit is going to get fucked at one point. People play their characters as THEY want to, as a GM you should not dictate them or judge them on this, you're meant to bring them into the universe not puppet them through it.

Generally as it goes,

True Neutral will do /anything/, but mainly don't screw shit up and most likely follow what the more significant party members do.

Chaotic Evil and Chaotic Neutral are always going to be treated the same, players always have a bad time distinguishing just how big of a gap these two alignments have to eachother.

Lawful Good the big goody two shoes, what a lot of players fail to realise is that Lawful Good can be just as malicious as Chaotic Evil, specifically Paladins who are essentially religious Zealots. I've seen players who mistake paladins as gods angels, when they aren't they can very much kill someone for disbelief or heresy.

Although this is from a GMs standpoint, so I can't speak much for the mainstream RPG culture, friend.

my paladin killed another PC for burning down a city block. the player had left and he just wanted to do it because the person pissed him off but in character it was pretty good. he killed the guy for a crime and told everyone who saw to worship palor or the same could happen to them
#13 - tigtone (02/03/2015) [-]
That Paladin sounds like a major dickbag not going to lie, he could've easily just turned him into the authorities. In many cases Paladins are extremely strong compared to other classes in the early stages of the game so it isn't really that hard to overpower someone without lethal intent. Although I'd imagine there was an orphanage or some shit in that city block.

That's also a great reason why I instill 'Royal guard' patrols into my major cities and give them blackjacks and train them in Acrobatics, athletics and endurance then give them epic-tier gear that's only fitted for them and requires a custom training skill to wear. You can never trust those damned rogues, during a district riot one of them decided to pickpocket in the midst of battle, then the barbarian lizardfolk decided to go into a bloodrage and challenged 5 royal guards to a fist fight. Sometimes, you just gotta powergame your NPCs, but for the PCs good.
User avatar #16 - sketchE (02/03/2015) [-]
dont worry it was actually the other way around. the wizard burnt down a city block knocked out and lit the paladin on fire was generaly a rule nazi the entire time he was with us and multiple times tried to get me to kill the paladin. what happened in game is that since the mage lit the block on fire he was arrested and sentanced to death. the paladin got the right to be his executioner. the player behind the mage had left before this all happened because i wouldnt cave in and run the game the way he wanted to
#17 - tigtone (02/03/2015) [-]
I had a wizard once, he was a choatic neutral Satyr, he was /that guy/, you know, the one who puts his dick in any female he comes across. Eventually I coaxed him into being a lich, causing his lower body to rot away which made his dick fall off and dissolve, he was so emotionally traumatized by the experience he killed a king, mutilated a vampire lord, raided a underground mushroom drug factory, ate an Illithids brain and then decided to smoke said mushrooms on the roof of a holy fortress inhabited by paladins all while yelling curses and obscenities in a blind fit of rage.

As much as I enjoy the creativity of wizard players, sometimes I just want to neck myself.
User avatar #18 - sketchE (02/03/2015) [-]
yeah since then weve got a new wizard whos doing his best to not be like the last one. or like a that guy in general. its kind of nice picking up new players every once in a while

Also morality is really subjective when it comes to certain things, like you said them being religious zealots and killing people because they're heathens. Well you're completely wrong those characters are not lawful good at all. Killing someone simply because they are a different religion is an evil action, those characters are Lawful Evil, not Lawful Good.
#9 - tigtone (02/03/2015) [-]

User avatar #6 - MrDeadiron (02/03/2015) [-]
My probably with the current morality system in DnD is that it is way too rigid in it definition and how it can affect players. A players morality should really be serious when it comes to some sort of religious nature in the game such as your God frowns upon certain actions.

Most people play neutral or chaotic neutral because neutral is traditionally seen as the morality that is the most self serving while as not totally being mercenary to the point of not caring.
