But that doesn't mean one confirms the other. At most, it's just a cute little Easter-Egg for people who enjoy both games, neither one has any effect on the other.
Eh, I vaguely remember seeing something about it on 4chan, some guy had found this email where Gabe Newell talked about Half-Life 3 (besides, even if it was fake, which it probably was, the Half-Life series is one of the most popular in the western world, on par with Elder Scrolls and GTA, they are ABSOLUTELY making a sequel, they wouldn't pass up that money and those 'confirmed' jokes are getting awfully old)

Yes, Easter-Egg. If Portal didn't exist they would come up with some other great plot. If Half-Life didn't exist, they would just make references to another game in Portal.
It's a nice touch, but again, neither of them have any effect on the other and I shall maintain that stand-point until the characters interact in some way, shape, or form.

Portal was going to be a standalone but they saw it easier to write into the Half Life lore. HL2 was originally going to start on the Borealis which was a Combine controlled ship for carrying technology from place to place without using their own tech. (Can see why it was removed.) and the idea of Aperture's Borealis came when the idea of it came to an employee who forwarded it. Then, other employees wanted the ship level back and therefore it began work.

No, because, again, they thought it would be a nice Easter-Egg
The employee suggested it because it seemed like an interesting idea, and others went along with it because it was. They were obviously going to do something with it or else they wouldn't waste time at all, but they figured it would be a nice nod, so there we go.
Until the two universes actually interact in some way or form (as in, actually change things), they are just Easter Eggs, that's all, and I'm sorry if that upsets you.

I know, I get that, but that's exactly what I mean. It was MEANT to be a stand-alone, it has absolutely no effect on the Half-Life universe aside from Easter-Eggs, the only reason it was tagged on was because it was cute and easy, and the only reason Half-Life has Easter-Eggs geared toward Portal is because, again, it's cute and fun.

Alright, fine, they're connected.
I don't actually agree with you, of course; but obviously we are getting nowhere and I would rather not have this devolve into ad-hominems. To me, it's just like saying Spiderman and X-Men are connected. Ya they're in the same universe and time-line, and yes they interact at times, but neither comic has a major effect on the other, they just happen to be part of the same company and it was easier to mix them together
But we're not going to agree on this, so lets just leave this conversation on a slightly sour note.

Believe it or not, a bullet wouldn't have made the hat fly off like that. The bullet itself would go right through it, but whether it was a blank or not, the gasses from either round would blow it off at that range. The bullet is just flying too fast to have any appreciable effect on the hat. If the hat were made of kevlar, that's another story
