The Lord of the RIngs franchise is over 58 years old, the first book having been released in 1954, and the first movie having been released in 2001 (Less than a month after Harry Potter). The fact that Lord of the Rings still stands as one of the greatest if not THE greatest fantasy story ever written, and that everyone is still talking about it nearly 60 years later and playing hundreds of games based on the franchise speaks for itself (This coming from a diehard fan of both series). Oh I know, I said define. As in the 90's 00's kids all know Harry Potter and consider it a major part of their upbringing. I won't argue that Harry Potter might not exist without LoTR, and that LoTR made the genre. I'm just saying they've both had massive affects on people's lives. #372 -
