| Not entirely. It was mostly because there wasn't an established military yet, they wanted the men to have a way to defend their country from invaders. There wasn't a "take back the government thing" because they designed the system to be the will of the people. Political powers to give and take away government positions were given to the people so they choose their own government. | ||

| But even so, Stroud shows things that really, anyone can do. Grylls shows things that he is able, and willing to do due to his training and the fact that he has a team with him. I doubt he would do half the things he does on his show in real life, purely because he realizes that if something did happen, he would be fucked. I won't debate you there, and in 90% of scenarios I would take Stroud's advice. But starve/die alone or do something life risking and I'd choose Grylls. As I said, it;s all about perspectives. | ||

| Not even close to completely different, Bear Grylls approach takes a certain level of athletic ability and co-ordination, which granted, most campers/hikers have. But I have seen episodes where he builds a raft to through rapids, jumped off a cliff to the top of a tree (over 40 feet up) and just done things that if you make any error, you end up dead, or seriously injured and then dead. Yes, Stroud is survival. Bear is "all or nothing," so he needs to take risks. Both shows attempt the same thing, but in different situations with different perspectives. Only the core is the same. Motherfucking this. If I were stuck in the middle of the Sahara, I would try to be like Les, because I doubt it would be easy to find civilization. If I were stuck in some forest in Oregon or something, I would try to do what Bear did, because finding civilization would be easier. Thank you for your wisdom Liam, now please, don't kill me. | ||

anon (11/05/2012) [-] 2 things make a great artist: 1. Influence Nirvana was incredibly original and influencial, whether their music was good or not they jumpstarted the Alt rock movement of the 90s and allowed most of the music that dominated the 90s (the offspring, pearl jam, green day , rhcp) to gain mainstream success 2. They write good songs In my opinion and in many other peoples opinion he did write good songs, whether or not they had meaning to him, other people found meaning in his songs, and musically they are very very well made. #74 -
dctrpepper (11/05/2012) [-] A. Kurt was incredibly depressed, and had very little self esteem. Evidenced by his suicide. He never thought he was that great, but everyone else did. Therefore him saying he has no writing skills has very little impact on the discussion of his writing skills. B. All of his songs had meaning to him. He hated popularity, and therefore didn't like playing songs like "Come As You Are" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but they had meaning to him. C. People love Kurt because his music was excellent (to a lot of people anyways), because he was an extremely interesting person (i.e. the famous guy who abhorred fame), and because he killed himself. And in the music business, if you die young, you're immortalized. (Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison etc. etc.) tl;dr Kurt's a great writer and was super popular for a reason, thats just your opinion. And this is just mine. | ||

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
