 The hardware is more than powerful enough to run both PS2 and PS3 games, it is a matter of taking the time to write the software. It takes time and money to make a system backwards compatible and Sony wants to spend neither. Also, who is bitching that the current generation isn't powerful enough? The reason that they're making the PS4 more powerful than the current gen is because that's what has come to be expected. Every prior console generation has had a significant jump in video (and for a time audio) quality, I'm not sure that anyone would buy a new console if it didn't have some sort of significant improvement. Ubisoft + any company that primarily makes games for PC (i.e Bethesda) And I'm not saying it's not powerful enough, I'm saying the reader just isn't built to read PS2 and 3 games, and it would cost more on to the already hefty price tag to include it. #582 -

I find it rather ridiculous that they are already going to be selling another console when this has yet to be done. To me it is just another "new console so spend lots of money on it please" ploy.
