Nobody liked being friends with the knowitall. Then things just get worse and worse you see. I wasn't unathletic, but because I acted differently I was always picked last for sports. God knows I couldn't hold a friendship because while the few people who befriended me enjoyed my company, they were my everything and I was just another friend to them. I became too intense for anyone who'd give me the time of day.

Now this would only seem to support your argument that some things can't be changed. Well buckle up, 'cause this pity party is on a new path.

In high school I resigned myself to hanging out in the loser corner where I was even considered to be a loser among the losers. Whatever, it meant not eating alone anymore. However, eating alone for all those years made me exceptional at ruminating over my faults. I realized that people didn't like me because I was different, what I needed was common ground. So I became a hobbyist. Musical Theatre, Track, Writing, School announcements, anything I could try out for, I did.

I'm now 2 years into uni. I have perhaps two genuine friends... but no one dislikes me anymore. I'm still different, but I've proven that hard work yields rewards. That resigning yourself to your faults is the worst thing you can do.

Granted... telling people to suck it up and get over it is a callous thing to do. But you know what, we should be advocating for that instead of hug parties where everyone pretends that nothing is wrong with anything.
