The problem is a lot of our sources of information come from the internet, like we used to read newspapers, and we used to watch the news.... Waaay back when newspapers where how EVERYONE got their information about the world the newspaper writers discovered they were doing something great.... sharing information to the people. So they did it, they gave them non bias information, solid information on not only what happens HERE but everywhere in the world. We were informed, we knew what was going on around us because the newspaper writers decided that we NEEDED information, even if it didn't suit to our specific needs.

The problem with Google and Facebook doing these things, is they keep our searches, our likes our dislikes, they track what we click on, so that when we browse, we ONLY get things that we LIKE. Nothing that would shake us, nothing that would cause us to question, nothing that will inform us of the other side. Technology doesn't have the since of pride the news writers did, they just want to show us what we WANT. That's a problem, we NEED a little of the other side, we NEED to read things that put us out of our comfort zone. Having this "internet bubble" is harmful, we become very uninformed, and people make uninformed decisions because our internet is tailored to us. It's tailored to not upset us, to be everything we WANT, but nothing we NEED.

We need a better way of filtering, one that allows us to view things that we may not agree with, but it's good to see all sides, all opinions, all the facts. We only get half of everything, and we only get the half that google, youtube, facebook, and others decided that we want.

Facebook filters people who have opposite views as you, I see NO conservative posts, they used to be filled with them. I get one or two every now and then, but when I look at people's profiles, I see posts that my newsfeed has decided FOR ME that I didn't want to see. This is a problem, when information is filtered to cater to us.

First, It's funny that you think that news used to be printed without bias.
Second, I've never had that problem wit Facebook, but then I only check it once a week or so.
Third, if you want views differing from your own, search for them. Don't expect Google to show six results for republicans when you Google democrat.
Take hold of your own mind and stop blaming your inadequacy on everyone else.

You don't seem to understand, if you search for anything, even as simple as "Egypt" you will get massively different results based on your whole searching history. Google may filter out ALL the news happening there (which is a whole hell of a lot) and just give you basic tourist information. This isn't right, if you search for Egypt it should at least give you some news, not all fluff....

And news was bias, but they broke away from that, only to go right straight back again now. It's funny you don't realize that the news used to NOT BE bias.

You never noticed your newsfeed because Facebook never told anyone about the filter, they just put it in. But if your newfeed (which I assume is filled with teenagers such as yourself) has nothing political or conflicting on it then no it probably won't be filtering any of it out.

Google should show you, and give you the option to click on links relevant to the world and news, it shouldn't fill up your whole search with fluff links. If you search for a country you should be able to get news about that country as well as what google "thinks you want". So the option is available to everyone. Filtering news does no good for people, filtering our searches, our links, our ads, they filter it all to mold to us. People need a good shake in their beliefs and foundation, otherwise you end up like we are today in the US... stupid about the world, picking one side or the other without knowledge about anything besides what YOU like.

I'm not blaming anyone, but it's up to Google to stop fluffing up the world for people who want it fluffed. The internet is the greatest source of unbias information we have, but Google and others have filtered it so there is only one side, that's YOUR side. I DO search, but I think it's funny you make assumptions about me. The internet shouldn't circle us into my bubble, your bubble, his bubble, her bubble, we should all be allowed to have news and facts no matter our "search preferences".

It's interesting that you assume that because I think you're stupid I must therefore be a teenager. Adults can also think others stupid you know. That said.
If you want to read news go look at news sites. Google is designed to keep you coming back over and over again. Therefore, fluff.
You're suggesting that Google should 'know you' and give you what you want in one paragraph and suggesting the opposite in the next. Make up your mind while I go take a shower.

No, I think if Google wants to control what we see and don't see, it should at least give us an option to see the other side, or the truth.

If you're a fundamentalist Christian, your searching point to a conservative feel and you search planned parenthood, you will get pro-life, anti-abortion bull shit. Anyone can make up anything they like to on the internet. There are tons of fake graphs, fake information, and lies out there.

If you're a very liberal person and search for planned parenthood you will get pro-choice, pro-women's rights and choice bull shit.. You will also get fake or false information, just as the fundamental Christian did.

Both of these scenarios keeps the other in the dark about reasons on both sides, giving us very bias opinions on it. You can find fundamentalist Christian websites that claim that planned parenthood does over 3 million abortions every year. You can find pro-choice websites that claim PP does less than 300,000.... Do you see the problem? Google gives us what we WANT, not what we need. Sure it can give us what we want, but we also need the truth, it should give the fundamentalist, and the liberal at least one of the same website, with facts, not opinions. An actual site with the real statistics by real people, it may go against what one or the other believes in, but it's the facts, the truth, the information that is relevant and needed to make an informed decision. But it doesn't work that way, it will give you whatever it thinks you want, and whatever it thinks caters to your likes, which isn't always necessarily the truth.

The same thing goes for anything you search, you need truth to go with your fluff, you can't just have all fluff or you end up with people who are uninformed. Google is one of the main search engines, it needs to step up and show facts to everyone, not just to the people it thinks would like the facts.

OK, we're going to do a little experiment if you're willing. I have just used Google to search for, "How many abortions have been performed since 1973" (The year of Roe V wade) In all of the links that offered a number it was 50 million for me. One link did not offer a number.

However using a statistic like abortion is going to give you a scued outcome because doctors are not allowed to release the number of abortions done in their clinics/hospitals. The reason is doctor patient confidentiality. They can't give those kinds of statistics away, so the number is really a guess. So to make this a really good experiment we need two more test questions for Google. How about the following?
"What is the age of the earth" (Top five links)
"What is the subject of On the Origin of the Species" (Just post the top five URLs)

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.
