it's not rocket science, its trial and error. if you cant do that then how do you even call yourself a member of the human species if you cannot perform basic functions nessisary for living on nothing, which people have lived in that manner for thousands of years? its basic survival skills, not some "lost art" or "ancient mystical way".

you dont need a pot, you find a round enough stone and carve it into a bowl. you don't live in an urban area, you go as far away from humanity as possible. as for shelter, you build it, or use a rocky outcropping for the basis of a lean-to shanty, which provides storage for fire construction matirials and food and more water, which you can make jars from sunbaked river clay pots. there are a multitude of traps you can utilize to catch small game ( ever hear of a deadfall trap? weighted pulley for a woven reed net and trigger system?). and it's not hard at all to make a simple fishing rod.
i believe you are mistaking homelessness in an urban enviroment for semi-nomadic buddhism, which is what i refer to. people did used to live unshackled by currency and the society that is is required for sustainability.

no, that's incorrect. if you don't own money, you aren't limited by not having enough, nor encumbered by its upkeep. if you have no limitations to your property because you don't own any, you will not be troubled by it. if you catch and cook your own food, and boil your own water to purify it, you don't need to buy any. it's called being self sustained. in a few years, i'm sure you will understand better.
User avatar #123 - Leyf (06/12/2012) [-]
In a few years I will understand better... Right.

To get that pot, to boil my water. Ill have to steal it. I don't have money after all.
Where am I going to live? The Subway? What about when it storms, rains, snows? How will I stay alive? How am I going to make a fire in the winter when all the sticks are wet and I have no MONEY to buy supplies. Catch my food? With what? The fishing pole that I BOUGHT?

Money is this world.

I've actually heard of a few people who live without money, without a house, and without a job by choice.

One hat a friend of mine knew lived on the AT, doing odd jobs in a nearby town in exchange for supplies.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting this guy, but my friend says he's one of the happiest individuals you'll ever meet.
User avatar #59 - dtox (06/12/2012) [-]
This is where stuff like this gets put to question.

It's forgetting the fact that we grew out of the need to survive indescribable threats that would push some species to the brink of extinction.

so what if I have to work a portion of each day? We're living for much longer, and much happier, then those that did centuries ago.

through the power of commerce and economic advancement, we work in much more comfortable and favorable conditions than ever before, sometimes we even enjoy that work.

and in the process, we are able to afford luxuries and the ability to enjoy ourselves.

Even the poorest of individuals in a city environment in the US wont go hungry, just something to think about how far we've come.
User avatar #49 - awesumpossum (06/12/2012) [-]
the only way to truly be happy i guess is to wipe out any form of currency idk it might work
