User avatar #34 - callmemrtiggles (05/24/2014) [-]
Not really.
Even if you had a shape that looked like a circle, it would be possible to zoom in on the edges until you see the defined sides again.
A perfect circle would not have these edges, though it is hardly possible to make one digitally, because of pixels. It would be near impossible to "carve" one as well.
The difference is purely a matter of point of view and theory, though.
People can think whatever they want, and there will be people who think otherwise.
Such is life.

Or maybe it's just not your cup of tea? Personally, I love every frickin' song they made, except for one...

I'm looking at you, Revolution 9...
#56 - frenzysalem (05/22/2014) [-]
I totally agree. I think the reason they were popular back then was because of the message in their music. They sung about peace while other bands sung about kicking ass and fucking women. And people like them today because it's edgy to like stuff that was popular a long time ago. I personally think music should be praised (1 for how it sounds and 2) for whatever it's message might be. That's why it irritates me when people claim to adore the Beatles then say they don't know who the Doors are even though just about everyone on earth has heard at least 5 of their songs whether they realize it or not.
User avatar #63 - specialone (05/22/2014) [-]
The Doors wouldn't be as big as they are if Jim Morrison hadn't killed himself. Same with Nirvana.
User avatar #64 - frenzysalem (05/22/2014) [-]
You know Jim Morrison didn't kill himself on purpose, right? He had a drug overdose. And I honestly think they would've become even more popular if he hadn't killed himself because he died before the Doors were finished making music.
User avatar #137 - specialone (05/22/2014) [-]
Sorry, my mistake. But I still believe they wouldn't be as adored. Due to his death, The Doors, and especially Jim Morrison received cult status - just like Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.

Don't get me wrong, they're both very good bands but I don't believe they'd be as widely remembered had their respective leads survived and they'd produced a couple of ok-ish albums.
#34 - kingpongthedon (05/21/2014) [-]
Right, but that's only because we can look at it in retrospect. The people we hold up as the greatest scientists and explorers, Newton and Einstein, Columbus and Leif Erickson, didn't really do much beyond offering the initial framework for others to build upon. They had a major breakthrough and then left it to other people to come in and flesh out the details while they moved on to the next major breakthrough. Greatness isn't measured by how good your work is technically but by the effect it has on those around you. If I find an album I prefer over the Beatles, it's only a matter of my own personal opinion, however the magnitude of any of their albums is objectively much greater than any of the albums I prefer.

TLDR: Great isn't referring to the quality of the work, but to the impact it had on the field.
User avatar #20 - samxdaxman (05/21/2014) [-]
I agree, compared to the talent we have from later years, they're not much at all. It's simply because they led the charge that they became "the greatest band of all time."

Black is the absence of electromagnetic waves of any visible light frequency hitting your eyes, while White is the opposite. They are not shades, they are moving particles in specific patterns such that they create the perception of sight when they reach the retinas found within your eyeball.

I really do hate it when artistic people try to explain physical properties of the universe when things like painting follows a unique set of definitions designed by and for painters, not physicists or to explain the happening of the universe abroad.

I remember there was one mod for Halo Custom Edition that gave each needle the explosive force of a Scorpion round. You'd light somebody up with the needler, wait a few seconds and then see their corpse rocket around the map, propelled by the sequence of explosions.
It was magical.
