There have been multiple occasions when small arms fire has punctured fuel storage tanks on an Abrams, causing exactly what they are apparently "built to completely negate."

How often its actually happened compared to how often you act like it happens are two completely different numbers; engine fires that actually do anything happen so rarely its negligible- even the ones you're talking about have happened because fuel was poured into the engine compartment and then ignited after it had soaked its way around, some pissy little molotov isn't going to do anything against the abrams turbine engine.

Citation 29 leads to a powerpoint showing damage done to M1 Abrams tanks during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Slide 5 reads

Externally stored items highly vulnerable to small arms fire
"In some instances, catastrophic losses resulted from burning EAPU material and/or packaged POL products dripping down into the engine compartment catching the engine on fire"

Doesn't matter what kind of tank it is, a fire will cook an engine.

Petrol Fire + Turbine engine = snuffed out fire.
User avatar
#90 - Kanoah (07/27/2015) [-]
Yeah, it does matter what kind of tank it is, especially when the tank is built to completely negate the potential of an engine fire, e.g the M1 Abrams.

You're not wrong. I joined the reserves for school money and cause the job interested me a lot. While I was at bootcamp, a lot of people we're a little too into it. Like a guy would sing god save the queen in the shower (We're Canadian) and would stay up at night all singing Hero of War. And when we got a weekend off they would all go to the club together and get annoyed by all "the civvy's" around them. It's a pompous culture. And I get what you mean saying its not the majority, but the 15% or so that are like that really ruin the image.
User avatar
#70 - datsheriff (07/21/2015) [-]
Hero of War? The Rise Against song?
User avatar
#72 - dabombmanater (07/21/2015) [-]
Yeah, my whole tent used to sing it every night except me and another guy who were just talking about other stuff the whole time. Keep in mind, the Canadian navy reserve is an extremely non dangerous job. None of us would ever be forced to go to war unless world war 3 was declared so I think it was really over dramatic for them to sing that.
User avatar
#74 - datsheriff (07/21/2015) [-]
On top of that, I wonder if they knew that it was an anti-war song.. Still a damn good song, though.
User avatar
#76 - dabombmanater (07/21/2015) [-]
Oh it is a damn good song, no doubt. I'm not sure honestly. I mean, it was probably a bonding experience for them more than anything. I just found it a pompous song choice.

Coming from a family of military brothers, I can safely say you don't get the worst of it.

Almost all of the enlisted people are uppity pompous ones.
"You think THAT'S bad?..."
"Oh, you think it's hot?..."
"You think THIS is stressful?..."
I fucking get it. You chose to be in the military, I didn't get. Take your egotistical fuckface away, and stop acting like serving made you a fucking god.

You'll need an FFL to own one that's full-auto, because apparently it's a retroactive ban. You can't buy a 100-year-old Maxim without one, because it's been slapped with a new illegal label. And now you apparently can't even pay to have it modified to full-auto because of new stupid anti-gunsmith laws.

the kits will include everything but the receiver and bolt so you'll need to buy a modern semi auto one
