Agreed but Obama's definition of assault rifle is screwed up and pointless. Both of the rifles (AR-15 and a Remington 7400) in this picture are gas operated semiautomatic rifles with roughly the same rate of fire. Obama would consider the top one an assault rifle while the one on the bottom would mere fall into the category of hunting rifle. An assault rifle is a weapon capable of firing more than one round with one pull of the trigger, not just because it looks like it is capable of that.

I could kill a lot more people with a shotgun than an assault rifle. Assault rifles, contrary to popular belief, are not designed to kill. They're designed to cause wounds bad enough to not only take a soldier out of combat, but also make your enemy occupy time, resources, and personnel in the care of that soldier. Shotguns and hunting rifles, on the other hand, are designed to kill. Right away.

I am no gun expert by any means but I was under the impression that Assault rifles still used bullets, made from metal, which kills.

But I'm just guessing, what makes the Assault rifle less dangerous than a shotgun or rifle? I really do want to know. Like seriously tell me the features that makes it less deadly.

Think about it. Would you rather have one small metal object flying at subsonic speed towards your face or 100 small metal objects flying at subsonic speeds to your face? And a typical hunting rifle in a single shot carries more firepower than an assault rifle in a single shot, which is why they are semi-auto, burst, or fully automatic.

Oh, it's entirely possible to kill someone with an assault rifle, and no loss there if they do. But most assault rifle bullets are sharp ended hard metal, meaning that when they hit flesh they go straight through, as opposed to round ended soft metal, which, when it hits a person shatters into fragments and tears up everything. Hollowpoints are even better at that. A hunting rifle is designed for only one purpose: killing, and nothing less, because wounding a prey animal is cruel. And with a shotgun, with the right ammunition, I could wound or kill an entire room (say, theater auditorium) without even aiming.
