How many of the laws that we have are actually needed, and how many are just there to tell you what to do because a few people are irresponsible?

Sure there should be laws against killing, destruction of property, and the such for the purposes of allowing punishment of such things, should they be accidental or intentional.

But what does a speed limit law really do for you?
Drive too fast, and you kill someone? Then you are accountable under the other laws for murder, accidental or not.

What about building anything you want? Owning whatever you want?
Someone else has to tell you that you can't because it's too dangerous? Because it's too noisy? Not safe enough?

Dude, speed limits are necessary. You dont just say "Oh he was driving extremely fast and caused a 5 car pile up, oh well that was his bad. Someone has to tell the families that they lost someone, whos turn is it?" We as a society need to law down rules and laws to live by, then we need to enforce it.
And yes building codes are VERY important. Especially in a society of big cities. We cant just let shotty worksmanship put random people at risk because we dont want to spend alot of money.

I meant, because there are several restrictions on guns in Borderlands. You can't have the on grip together with a certain barrel and a certain clip not together with a certain scope and so on. That reduces the possible combinations. (Although I can still imagine it's an incredible large amount)
