anon (08/03/2015) [-] iirc it's not the drinking age that was raised, it was everything else being lowered. The voting age wasn't lowered to 18 until the 1970s, for instance. Not really because the few people who actually wait until 21 are the type of people who aren't really interested in drinking for the fun of it, and mostly only drink in moderation during social situations and for the taste. The people who go crazy at 21 have been drinking and only go crazy because they no longer have to mooch booze off of other people and can now drink whenever they want. Thats true, and it supports what I said. Kids have no experience with handling alcohol, so they get irresponsible with it. Ad then especially when they turn 21 when they get the freedom to drink whenever. Of course this doesnt apply to everybody. All I know is when I and about 20 classmates went to China this past summer, all of us college kids but still under 21, there were a few folks that ran into some problems with alcohol while they were over there. Especially once we met the Irish exchange students.

ByeliVolk (06/26/2015) [-] The argument that you used such since you were not involved in x then it does not affect you or you do not know the ancestor involved in x that it did not affect you personally. That in itself is a fallacy. I come from a long line of military family. Every war my family has been in is something that I take pride in and understand the amount of respect I have to my ancestors. So when someone tells me that x does not affect you because you do not know the person involved is like taking a shit on my family history. Granted my family fought for the Union but I respect anybody who lost a relative in the war regardless of side. Now you are making assumptions here with the comment " Either way, if you rather argue to keep a piece of fabric up on a pole rather than attempt to end the social problems America has, well then that just says a lot about you." I respect the right a person has to fly whatever flag the damn well feel like as long as they fly the US flag higher then the rest as is stated in the course of state and federal government. But for someone to fly it at their house, truck, or where ever they may be on private land they have that right. And how is getting rid of a flag going to be an attempt at social problems. If you have not noticed it is making more social problems then before. Taking down that flag is not solving shit nor will it ever solve shit. Social problems will continue to fucking exist because people would rather focus on the color of the persons skin and getting benefits or using it as an excuse for everything. Until that goes away or is accepted then it will not end. I never claimed to know what you thought or what you knew in regards to your historical knowledge. But the comment about "Its time certain citizens of my state to get their heads out of their asses and try to move towards the future. " is where my second paragraph is addressing. By that sentence you would rather get rid a piece of history to "move foward" to the future. That is where I am saying white washing history comes in. You are right the South will never rise again. But I think we need to fight back overly political correctness people because they are slowly controlling what we can say, do, think, wear, or express ourselves fully. So much apologies if you think I was overly attacking you but when you shit on someone's family history I am going to call you on it.

ByeliVolk (06/26/2015) [-] Nazistick has more then enough valid points. By your reasoning then the Revolutionary War was near 240 years ago and you knew none of those relatives of yours that fought in it. You weren't there and it never affected you personally. You argument can be used very well against you so many times. Forrest was an amazing strategist and that is a talent that should not be taken lightly. He may have done horrible things or started a group that did horrible things but he did do something that many people could stand up and say look how brilliant he was. Jenisist it is people like you who would rather white wash over your nation or state's history in favor of covering it up then rather take a stance against some of these massively over political correct assholes who think they can dictate what we say, think, wear, or do because it may or may not offend them. The flag is a symbol for them and should be left at that. BTW both the South and the North both had slaves but only one side of the Dixie line had to get rid of theirs but not the other. Both had horrible prison camps. Both treated each other like shit and did do horrible things to each other. I see the Confederate flag for what its people see which is freedom against the over reaching Federal Government at the time. Lincoln didn't give two shits about slavery or slaves at that time it was a political maneuver that he used to gain presidency and he knew he had to follow through on his promise to get rid of the slaves in the South. Look I dont have anything against the flag, and I love my home. I dont understand what you mean by saying my reasoning can be used against my argument many times over, because the only thing Im saying is that its time to stop throwing a hiss fit over something you were never involved in just because where you come from/ what your ancestors did/ etc. I dont see the flag as offensive. But I can see how some other people can find it offensive. Either way, if you rather argue to keep a piece of fabric up on a pole rather than attempt to end the social problems America has, well then that just says a lot about you. And I'm sure the entire country along with every other country in the world had a system of slavery going on the time, I never said that it wasnt true. I know the War was more than just about slavery, so stop trying to assume what I think to be true. The bottom line is that history is history. So instead of having a stick up our asses and taking insult that people dont like the flag that we think represents all our ancestors lost, we can accept what happen and move on. The south is never going to rise again because theres no need to. We are one country and maybe some people should start acting like it. Damn, Im not even in the United States at this time and I cant escape this bullshit. #42 -

Depends where in the state you live, but overall its kinda crappy. I'm from the Gulf Coast, which is really the only place worth living in the state imo. The people here aren't like the stereotypical Mississippian you'd might think about. And we have beaches, but not white sand and blue water. The Mississippi sound is pretty dirty. So if you're thinking some tropical getaway well eh thats not it. But if you got a boat or are into fishing and stuff like that, its good for you.
Outside of the Coast the only other places worth living would be in a college town like Oxford or Starkville. And maybe Jackson the capitol would be worth living in, but I've only been through there so I cant tell you how it is round there.
Other than those places the state is just full of cows and country folks. So since there isn't really anything big in the state, it can be boring.

I don't have one, people from the Coast generally don't have one.
Go a couple hours north from the beaches though and you'll definitely find some.
The Gulf Coast really is different from the rest of the state. If we could we would succeed into the state of South Mississippi.

Eh, its just out in the sticks you got people stuck in the past. Theres the white fols with their farms and ranches that have been in the family since the civil war. Which, being stuck in the past, you can imagine racial tensions are high. I've met some truly racist old white men in this state.
Then in the delta you got poverty, crime, and piss poor education. Its a shame, lots of talent has come to this state. But because we just dont have the money/resources, Mississippi lags behind the rest of the union.
The Coast is different though, because we have all sorts of different people down here. And we have income coming in all the time through the gaming business down here, and fishing. Also theres some big companies that have manufactures down here, even NASA is down here.

Just lots of hate.... Everywhere.
