Why don't they make their own movies?
More to the point; if your life has to be validated by seeing your skin color on a movie, then you need to be blown up in a hellhole somewhere.
Typically the reason why you don't see many film industries outside of the US and Bollywood is because those countries don't have the means to make one due to extreme poverty, nor are the people interested in a local film industry. They have so much shit going on already the people aren't interested in local films. Why go make a movie when there is a literal war outside? Its easier to buy a bootleg dvd of an american made film. As hilariously bad as it is, its shocking that Who Killed Captain Alex was finished when it was filmed in the middle of a war. The only reason it was made was because the director is so passionate about film making that he powered through it all and made a movie on a budget of 200 dollars.
Now this isn't to say "we need to make movies that appeal to ugandas" or whatever, but rather this is the reason why they don't go out and make their own movies. They just can't when they have other things to worry about.
More importantly, you shouldn't bomb the fuck out of people for not having your skin color in a fucking movie.
Hey, have you ever seen Wakaliwood?
Watch a movie called "Who killed Captain Alex"
It's hard, but possible, if you really want a movie, you can make one.
Nigga you didn't read a goddamn thing I said
No, i didn't. I'm fucking tired of repeating myself.
Yes because you getting tired of repeating yourself totally justifies responding to me with the same argument I literally just addressed.
it's not validation, it's motivation. propaganda can be on any sort of medium.
Why does it motivate them to commit crime and not motivate them to make movies starring themselves?
Is it, because, maybe, ideology backs up their twisted sense of 'social justice'?
did you literally just ask me why a terrorist organization isn't making public service announcements?
and for the arab nations the killing of people who don't believe in Allah is what you're supposed to do. the Quran calls for the killing of apostates or those who don't believe in allah
I'm talking about those people who join up with Isis. Not Isis itself. Christ.
So, it has nothing to do with people who have the same skin color/nationality/religion as them not being in movies. It has everything to do with their twisted ideology. Gotcha.
I think his point was more that since Isis prey upon disenfranchised people who feel they have no place in their society that it might not be a terrible thing if movies were a little more inclusive of them and represent them in the media.
but that sort of stuff does not sell terrible red topped newspapers
Why don't they make their own movies?
I've seen Wakaliwood in Uganda make movies with nothing more than $200 as a budget. It was entertaining, too. They're slowly getting more reknown for their movies. Why can't they do the same? Instead of throwing bombs at us for not including them in our movies, why don't they make their own? They're spending a hell of a lot of money on grenades, RPGs, rifles, trucks, and what have you, when they could be purchasing high end movie making equipment to finally feel like they belong in their own culture!
Why do they have to be apart of ours? Why are we obligated to take them as part of ours? We don't. People can make movies about anything they want. If it's Islam focused, fine, whatever. It won't get very popular.
If they aren't Islam focused and just try and follow a story, instead of trying to push 'social justice' and just having the 'token Muslim character' then movies would be a lot more entertaining. Movies aren't for pushing social agendas, they're for entertainment. Get a good Muslim actor who doesn't have to play a fucking Muslim in the movie? Fine, that's great. If the story doesn't call for a Muslim, then don't panhandle one in! Don't force it!
And specially don't bomb people because you feel like you aren't being represented in THEIR culture!
All this is, is a smokescreen to those stupid faggots who take 'feels over reals'. They want the comfortable middle class and elites to believe that they're sad because they aren't in movies, so then they feel more sympathetic towards them, and allow them in. Of course, they only hurt the working class, but that's a sacrifice the middle/upper class is willing to make, isn't it?
But they aren't focusing on the people who have no place in THEIR society.
They're focusing on people who already do not belong to our society, feel jealous that we have what we do, and then saying they're hated because they aren't in our movies. That's ridiculous.
These people are recruiting those who already hate America for one form or another, either the Military bombed their neighborhood, or they shot someone important to them (terrorist or not).. Then on the domestic side of things, they're recruiting people who feel that America is keeping these people down, like the elites holding down the peasants, and they want to fight it. They don't realize how much shit they've gotten themselves into, try and leave, and get beheaded for apostasy.
They're preying on our mentally ill and our easily misled. Only idiots join up with ISIS.
I agree...when I said their society I meant Muslims who were in Western countries who felt marginalised and ostracised from their Western society. Not those in Isis controlled places. Those are the ones it's easjest to brainwash and recruit.
I assume as much as it's from RIz Ahmed, seems like a really intelligent guy from all the media stuff that was about when he was in Four Lions.
All I'm trying to say, is that this asshole who says people join up with ISIS because they aren't represented in media is full of shit.
It's a smokescreen. They join up with ISIS because they hate America. And if they hate America because they aren't represented, even though they don't do shit to TRY and get represented, then they're insane and should be dealt with.
They are full of shit, but that is not what Riz Ahmed was saying...thats just what this out of context quote would have you believe...Jamz got it spot it
It's not our fault that our movies don't call for Muslims more than half of the time.
I'm sure there are some talented Muslim actors, but all they have to do is make it into a role.
A lot of people are marginalised in our movies. Do you think that eskimos get a lot of attention in our movies? No. Do you think Australians get a lot of representation in our movies? No. How about Ugandans? Not really.
But you don't see those people joining up with ISIS and beheading people and blowing up shopping malls because they aren't in our movies. They just make their own.
It's astounding that American movies mostly host Americans. The broadest demographic in America is white people, meaning more whites would be in movies, because they account for over half of the population. We've got a lot of blacks, too. And hispanics.
I would just like to mention that Bollywood does exist and it is the arguably the second biggest movie industry in the world, some may argue that China is bigger. Bollywood is watched all over the Middle East and has a largte following in Western society. This shows that they do have their own movies, which include 99.9% Middle Eastern/Indian actors. One of the best movies I've watched in the past year was an Iranian horror called "Under the Shadow", which isn't Bollywood. Bollywood has come very far in a very short space of time and have countless movies now that aren't just a mashup of may genres and a musical. But these movies still don't represent the type of people Riz is talking about in his interview. The type of people who are conflicted with their beliefs and how the world is around them in Western society. Where it is cool to have casual sex, drink and do drugs. I believe these are the types of that are vulnerable to be corrupted by these recruiters, who show that they aren't wrong and that it is Western society that is. I think the situation is deeper than just representation in movies but Riz is on the right track. The media has twisted his words and FJ is quick to accept the clickbaits and fake news that aligns with its agenda.
