In this case it does though.
If you're buying a next-gen console to play games, PS4 is the best choice.
Better hardware and a better online experience for less money, it's obvious that it's the better choice for gaming. The Xbone isn't a bad console though, the games are alright, the TV services are cool I guess if you watch a lot of TV, the snap feature is pretty cool, but the PS4 pretty much wins in every other aspect. (And I'm not a PlayStation fanboy either, I mainly play Nintendo)
#299 - yusay (11/27/2013) [-]
Except it isn't. Neither are. Know why? Because gaming systems last for years and most people don't have the ability to buy another one whenever they want. Saying that it is the best system now is ridiculous when you have no idea how it will perform in a year, let alone five years.

unless you want to play Xbox exclusives right? because regardless of how better ps4 is, there's no way you'll play said games otherwise.
while i agree on better hardware for less money, im sorry but saying ps4 has better online is just silly. The playstation plus may be a better deal than xbox live gold due to free games but that's it really. If those games weren't offered Ps+ would be worthless.
if you're in it for the games get both is what i say. If you're in it for hardware comparison buy a pc.
ps btw that whole "im not a playstation fanboy" deal just screams denial. why should anyone's opinion be automatically refer preference? If you don't like xbox, that's fine, no need to justify yourself.
#135 - overlordweasel (11/27/2013) [-]
Anyone that wants to play both console exclusives are probably going to get both consoles anyways so its a moot point really. Also, you cant really bash a service by sayng "well if just just take out all the things that makes it better and different, it'd be useless" well, no shit. That's like comparing two computers and saying well if you took out the hard rive and motherboard, this computer would be worse than this one; it makes literally no sense. It has extra features for a cheaper price ( and free games that other wise cost you 10-40+ bucks each more than makes up for the monthly expense imo, and that's not all you get wit h+ either).
and ps, the reason he/she put the "justification" there is for the die hard fanboys looking for any excuse to bash someone that doesn't put their console of choice in god status.

i know why its there, but trolls shouldn't be fed. Im not accusing him of being a PS fanboy (though after looking at the rest of his comments id be more inclined to)
In regards to the the live/ps+, i meant the way he said it, as an online experience. free games isnt an online experience they are just perks for the subscription.
if you strip both down to the bare online gameplay essentials PS network isnt even close to xbox live, hence why its been free all this time.
Not out of Sony's goodness, but because they know no one would pay for a service which isn't as good as its competitors.
#157 - overlordweasel (11/27/2013) [-]
for xbox you pay to have any online whatsoever, it better be damn good if you are basically forced to getting it, or else the player base will flame the hell out of them hurting buisness. With the PS you just need internet for your basic needs (netflix and the multiplayer for pretty much all games, if not all), then if you want all the bonuses of getting discounts and free games that pay for themselves (honestly 12 free games is going to cost you way more than 50 bucks unless your buying a bunch of shitty ps2/PSx games on the store) and its cheaper than the MANDATORY online pass for xbox. Sorry, i'm no fanboy ( PC master race here) but i'm gonna chalk that up for a win for Sony. Free or "you can pay less for more" options > "pay me or else" all day everyday. Or...you could just buy a PC and laugh as you get pretty much all of the best games for both in better graphics while the consolefags argue which shitty excuse for a pc is better.
#162 - hairymetalhead (11/27/2013) [-]
in your whole argument you ignore that xbox live is better than ps network for online gameplay, which is the whole point of this argument. That's why they charge for it which is fine by me.
Id rather pay for a nice meal than eat shit out the trash.
I can understand why stuff like netflix shouldn't be behind a paywall, but i don't pay live for that specifically so it doesn't bother me.
And as i said before as PS+ is a better deal for value due to the free games they "lend you", and the PSnetwork as a whole for not having a paywall for many things. But that still doesn't make it a better option for online gaming, just makes it a cheaper one.
Can't argue against pc though ;)
#133 - kylebro (11/27/2013) [-]
>"If those games weren't offered Ps+ would be worthless." Yes, if, but there's no if, the games are offered, therefore PS plus is better. And yeah without the games and multiplayer PS plus would be worthless because sony gives you all the stuff that Xbox Live gold makes you pay for, for FREE.
Also I added in the "I'm not a playstation fanboy" thing because every time I make this argument I get called a PS fanboy so I thought I'd put it out there before people try and say it. I really don't take any sides when it comes to consoles, I pick the one that I think would do the job better.

Except MS just countered that at E3 this year. The Games with Gold program gives you 2 free games a month. Yes the games are older and not quite as popular as what PS+ gives you but they're yours to keep, whereas PS+ takes those games away if you stop your subscription. And I've heard they're continuing the program to the X1 sometime in 2014. Meaning free games that are at most a year old.

if its the one you "think" they you may want to inform yourself better.
I believe that's what i said. i was just pointing out that ps+, as an online gaming platform just isn't as good as xbox live.
also they started offering those games because they knew that's all they could offer on a monthly subscription, and to make up for that clusterfuck of a hack which lost many subscribers money and personal details.
Also all that netflix jibber jabber, no one pays xbox live gold for netflix. I pay mine for a premium online gaming service. Had that not been the case i would just watch netflix on the computer. Which is why sony doesn't charge for it, it gives the PS more use.
#124 - hairymetalhead (11/27/2013) [-]
it is better, but marginally. There was a big deal with comparisons recently with CoD. Reviewers mostly (apart from polygon who did mention it may have been a placebo effect due to prior knowledge of res difference) said ps4 looked much better than xbox one due to native 1080p res, as it turned out, both games were running 720p and everyone was just talking shit and the difference really isn't great, unless its influenced by half truths.
The hardware gap between xbox one and ps4 is smaller than 360 and ps3.
online experience wise its not even close.
#121 - kylebro (11/27/2013) [-]
Dead Rising 3, an Xbox One exclusive, runs in 720p
Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4, run at 720p on the Xbone and 1080p on the PS4.
The Xbox one clearly can't keep up with the PS4 performance-wise.
>Better Online experience
So you're saying that for $50 a year, different free games every month and discounts on a shit ton of stuff isn't amazing? And all you really need online for is multiplayer, if you just wanna use services like Netflix then you don't have to pay for online, unlike Xbone.
Also, if you don't have internet access, you have no choice, you can't buy an Xbox one as it requires a day one patch for the console to function at all, which is really fucking stupid.
#276 - sixpoundsofjerky (11/27/2013) [-]
You're ignoring the fact that the PS+ Subscription and a LIVE Subscription have a negligible price gap, and both give you free games (Now that the 'Games With Gold' thing is in full swing - And is said to continue indefinitely on both platforms), and both give you all sorts of discounts. I can admit I'm not sure how they work with PS+, if it's a flat-rate discount or what-have-you, but there are constant sales with LIVE. There is always something available at a discount, and often the discount is significant.
As for 'having to pay for Netflix and such', you should not be buying a next-gen console -period- if you want to use it for Netflix. You're buying it to play games, otherwise there's no logical purpose in owning it. Add in the fact that there are very few games that don't feature prominent online modes, whether they be cooperative or competitive, and that these features are expected by gamers to the point of being a borderline requirement and... You're GOING to have a subscription to your console's (Be it PS4 or XONE) online service. The memberships boil down to being the same. Frankly, the consoles themselves boil down to being the same.
Also, the graphical power argument is a bit moot, as the only games that you'll see a real difference on are the exclusives, and those aren't on the XONE anyway, so who cares? Factually, you should just look at whichever one you think you'll have more fun with. What exclusives do you have more interest in? What one will you be able to play with more of your friends (Based upon who owns what, not which is 'better')?
Don't try to argue superiority of games or systems, my friends. We all play games to have fun. So have fun. Play what you want, for the reasons you want, and treat those reasons as if they were a religion. Keep them to yourself unless asked, and if asked, be polite, don't try to ram your opinions down other people's throats. The gaming 'community' is seriously lacking community, and we should fix that.

Sorry for the late reply, but I really think the point I was trying to make in my original reply is being lost here.
What I'm trying to say is this -
The PS4 and Xbox One both have similar hardware, with the PS4 coming out on top by a small margin.
The PS4 and Xbox One both have a similar online experience, The Xbox One seems to be offering free games and discounts too, which I didn't know about until now.
The PS4 also slightly beats the Xbox One when it comes to multiplats as of now.
If the two consoles were both at the same price point, it would be fair game and I would completely agree with what you're saying, go with the console that has the exclusives you want. But that isn't the case, the Xbox One is $100 more expensive.
So as of now, would it not be logical to go with the console with slightly better hardware and slightly better multiplats for $100 cheaper?
#153 - hairymetalhead (11/27/2013) [-]
discussing game development without understanding out it works is pointless.
lets not forget the eSram nonsense microsoft threw in which is making these new games trickier to make on xbox one. if i remember correctly, ps3's cell structure were much more complicated but the games ended up being fine even though the launch games weren't as good when compared to 360.
