You spoke my thoughts perfectly. Now that this has been publicized as much as it has, I think they're done leading normal lives. Fighting fire with fire, so to speak, is very rarely a good solution, even to something like this.

You're forgetting.

They're in America. They'll get a bit of Juvy, a slap on the wrist and be sent back out into the streets. Our State Governments don't know what justice is, and they never will. That's why it's up to the people to punish these little wannabes, because we can't trust our State elected officials to.

Besides, I'm fairly certain the rest of Illinois doesn't want to have to pay to keep them incarcerated anyway.

Actually, Chicago law states that they will not go to jail unless they already have a criminal record. Otherwise they will only be put on probation.

Sources: I live in Chicago and something like this happened to be. The melon munchers only got 9 months probation.
