I'm not saying it doesn't, I'm just saying if you use an example which is irrelevant to the existence of a God then it would be relevant no matter what the child grew up to beleive. gnorfell, if you get this as a reply as well as HeavyPrescription (not sure how the commenting works) I too am deeply sorry about your friend. HeavyPrescription, it does teach good moral values, but if you say to a child "Don't steal because God thinks it's wrong" and that child stops beleiving in God, what's to stop themfrom justifiying stealing in their mind? It would be better to say "Don't steal because you wouldn't feel very happy if someone stole something of yours.". Just my opinion.
User avatar #130 - HeavyPerscription (08/19/2011) [-]
You do prove a point, and I in my being cannot provide a counter-argument, though, given philosophies nature, I assure you a counter-argument exists somewhere.

But the good morals that has been given to us by religion has been "adopted" by todays society.

Therefore we do not need religion for good morals.

And seriously, I just thought of this...
...but saying that religion is a bad thing for the world is more like pointing out the extremists.
Crusades.
Purge of jerusalem.
9/11
Such things...
...all done by extremists.
As I live in sweden I have both Muslim and Christian friends and they're all friendly and they kind off have the same morals but...

then let me ask you this - what proof is there of any form of God?
User avatar #126 - HeavyPerscription (08/19/2011) [-]
Well seeing as how we interrupt God from religion, and religion is taught through text, The Bible (or similar religous texts) are the only proof we have.

This is a logical fallacy in that it uses the conclusion as the argument.
But, when asked, "What proof of the big bang is there"

Scientist wrote a theory, using an assumption of a centralization of the universe to explain why everything was created

This commits the same logical fallacy in that we use the conclusion of the argument as the argument itself.
User avatar #134 - Kaii (08/19/2011) [-]

That is true.
We know that the universe is constantly expanding at a steady rate.
Galaxies are moving with it from one central point in the universe.

Higher radiation readings from that point.
Energy mass.
Such things has been noted aswell I believe.
