I would say that part of his success was his ability to use technology and use the creative possibilities that came with the new tech, much like most of electronic music has been doing since their surfacing, and up to today. I believe Skrillex appeals to kids today for the same reason Hendrix originally appealed to his generation: novelty, shared identity and rebellion. The wave of dubstep with it's characteristic wub-wub is something not previously heard, something that gives kids a sense of identity that is separate from even the early 90's generation, and even more so from their parents. However, if you wanted to know what my most recent deleted comment was, which is the only reason I can think of for you actually coming onto my profile to say that, it was a picture of slowpoke declaring the cake to be a lie.
The humour was intended to lie with the use of the typically slow pokemon slowpoke, and the use of a very old joke to create a positive response in people.
As shown by the thumbs down, it did not have the intended effect, and so was deleted to save people from having to view it.
