Communism = Everybody works. If you don't work, law enforcement is notified, finds u, takes u to the station, gives u a good old beating in the dark room, finds u an employer and sends you to work the next day. If you're unqualified, they send you to school where you learn a trade and after that you go to work. I live in a post-communist country and 20 years ago, unemployment was almost null. The best thing was that they also gave you an apartment and, despite shortages, you NEVER went hungry or homeless. Healthcare and education was free on every level.
Liberalism = Sweden.

In actual Marxism, typically you still have to work for your lifestyle. If you didn't work - being unwilling to work and unable to work are two different things, mind you - you're seen as an enemy of the people/counter-revolutionary/capitalist pig/whatever else they want to call you, and either forced into slave labor in a prison camp like the gulags in the former USSR or worse executed either by conventional means or, if you were REALLY unlucky, as guinea pigs for scientific experimentation .
Sounds good in theory, right? Well, the problems come from human nature and greed fucking things up and eventually resulting in a system that is basically Social Fascism not to be confused with National Socialism, or Nazism for short, although they are very similar in all but name, which tends to be horrendously inefficient and ends up collapsing in on itself if the conditions are right like those found in a Lensman Arm's Race, which Ronald Reagan forced the USSR into in the 1980s to cause it to collapse, but in the process caused the US' national debt to skyrocket due to reckless defense spending to maintain the arm's race.

Not necessarily - the real shortcoming of Marxism is that it can't actually achieve its objective of a utopia without need for a government at all, because humans are greedy bastards. This is the same thing that ruins it as a system, and the only reason why some supposedly Communist nations are still around is because they're either one, very small Marxism CAN sustain itself on a small scale, where inefficiency is at a minimum or not actually Communist at all China being the definitive example - in the words of the late Dem Xiaoping, "It doesn't matter what you call the cat. If it catches rats, it's a good cat." .

provided constitutional limits and laws are placed on the government to prevent it from going full Stalin , it is entirely within reason that Communism could be an effective form of economic and governmental structure. Not that I necessarily support it, I'm a believer in the free market and capitalism to an extent. The right to own my own business and property in pursuit of economic well-being is comforting. I do hope the U.S. establishes Universal Health care soon though, it would be beneficial to society.

the two huge aspects of communism I reject is giving the government total control which is basically begging for the government to go full Stalin and the idea that people should make similar wages some people honestly put their entire lives into their work and I think it's totally unfair if a procrastinator like me would be making something very close.
I also really like the idea of giving people incentives because I really want new advances and if people aren't given incentives but are instead forced, it just doesn't work.
I'm perfectly happy with the existence of billionaires if their riches came from a product that improved my quality of life.
#121 - imdan (04/24/2015) [-]
First, I agree with you on limiting a communist governments power, which is why I said there needs to be constitutional limits. Second, yes, certain people deserve to be paid better for better work. Billionaires are fine, but only if you have so many, too many rich people ruin the economy. But I also wish to see improvements in technology and world wide infrastructure, but the best incentive is a mix between desperation and reward.
#124 - flufflepuff (04/24/2015) [-]
I agreed with everything until you said "a mix between desperation and reward."
I just don't believe force works well in an economy. I don't think people are happy when living with feeling force from the government. Lastly, I can't imagine any form of freedom where force is applied.
A government really needs to run with the spirit of "unlimited freedom so long as it doesn't infringe on the freedom of others" and forcing people into some kind of mindset or some kind of work isn't a good way to go..
#129 - imdan (04/24/2015) [-]
Yes, well, let me clarify by desperation. While writing this, I was thinking of WWII, specifically the scientists working on the Manhattan Project. They had an incentive to end the war and desperation to end the war with their work.
I believe that the best innovations come from the worst situations, not freedom through force. Freedom is something all people deserve by birthright, to be forced into a particular situation or to do certain work for an entity of people you may or may not support is not freedom, its slavery. But, to defend your freedom, family, and way of life, you have to have a kind of desperate urge to bring about resolution in your work, that's what I meant by desperation.

and i mean if we really go and say we need the ideal here, the best form of government is anarchy.
People would do exactly what is expected of them, there would be no robberies or thefts, no crimes or wars, no murder or rape, so we wouldn't need a government or any governments because everyone would live happily. No taxes, too.
but we don't live in a world like that.
