I don't think that making a child conform to parents religions is a good way to teach a child not to conform...

but human conform. That is human nature. To be liked by everyone around them.
One of my favorite tests was about lines. A group of people would enter a room with a scientist. All but one is an actor. The scientist will show a board that shows multiple parallel lines of varying length and ask which is the longest. The actors ALWAYS picked the wrong line and the scientist would see how the one true person answer. EVERY SINGLE time the person would eventually conform to the popular belief.

Now put that here. If a person goes to reddit or funnyjunk daily and sees the overly-athiest view of everything, it is highly possible that they will conform and become atheist.

This isnt wrong, immoral, or cruel. This is human nature.

Except you can't teach "atheist beliefs" because atheism isn't a belief. Unless you teach "there is no god", that's not the same kind of atheism that 95% of atheists call themselves today.
And FYI, you can't be "agnostic". Gnosticism is not mutually exclusive from beliefs.

but you can teach them atheist beliefs. for example if your kid comes home and tells you that some kid told him about god who created everything and you sit down and teach him that there is no god then that is teaching him atheist beliefs

That makes no fuckin sense, it's no bad mark on them in losing to the Germans in WW2 who were one of the greatest military
forces ever assembled.

actually it was indestructible. they were beaten only because Erwin Rommel and the rest of the Panzer Korps used tanks in a way that at the time was thought impossible: they went through the woods....
User avatar #178 - conoriskool (10/18/2012) [-]
How am I crying? You think America would have stood better against the Germans in ww2? Any country in the world if sharing a border with the
Germans in ww2 would have been annihilated, the only reason the Brits survived was the English channel. And this "reputation" was fabricated by the US media because the French refused to join their stupid was in Iraq after 9/11, not because of ww2
#194 - HarbingerGunner (10/18/2012) [-]
but it wasnt any country in the world, it was france. So France gets the reputation. And yes, you are mad. It is very apparent :/

actually the french really sucked in every conflict after WWI...but they were badass until then....I never understood what happened, where did the Napoleonic hordes go?
User avatar #212 - conoriskool (10/18/2012) [-]
The only major conflict after ww1 was ww2, and nobody can blame them for falling to nazi Germany. They lost against the Vietnamese in the First Indochina War too, which wasn't too long after ww2 from which they still suffered the effects.
And that also isn't so bad considering the Americans lost a war against the Vietnamese
not too long after that too in the Vietnam war right?
User avatar #213 - stalkersgonnastalk (10/18/2012) [-]
im not saying french are cowards but the french army never really got back to where they were before WWII. and im not blaming them for losing against the nazis, hell the USSR almost fell to those guys! the only thing more terrifying than a panzer blitz was the russian charge. but still even now days the french army sucks...'cept the foreign legion, those guys are badass.

well the whole of Europe went under a lot of demilitarizing after ww2, you must understand
the complete state of ruin large parts of Europe experienced and the general concensus was "never again". Hence the formation of the EU, which made it economically impossible for Europeans to wage war on each other again. The big European nations nowadays only spend about 2% of gdp on the military, while places like the USA spend 5%. Europe doesn't want war any more. BUT they
are trying to centralize European militarys. The EU currently has the largest armed forces in the world (active plus reserve) it's just each country likes to look after their own affairs so instead of having on commander in chief the EU has 27. They wanna change that........ Sorry for going on a tangent I tend to get lost in these types of conversations lol
User avatar #216 - stalkersgonnastalk (10/18/2012) [-]
of course, i was just talking theoretically. still taken individually the french army is the weakest of the big armies (british, german etc) are the russian forces part of the EU military? because from what i hear they are pretty isolated. its nice to have a conversation with someone who has an idea of what hes talking about :)
User avatar #219 - conoriskool (10/18/2012) [-]
Well sadly the Germans actually don't have a very good military at all anymore, they are very anti-war now after ww2 and don't invest so much in their military. So the 2 major powers in Europe are the British and the French.
The Brits would be just above the French I reckon but the French have more troops. The thing that helps the Brits is their military budget is quite a bit higher. no the Russians aren't a part of the EU they have their own military. I can direct you to a fairly decent
site if you would like, type "global firepower" into google and click the first link and you'll see a list of the current best powers in the world and the resources they have at their disposal etc.
I think one of the reasons also why the Germans don't put much to their military is they still have american and british troops in their land since ww2, so if they have 10,000 american troops in Germany (the US recently haved this from a figure of 20k to focus on asia) and a further 15k troops from britain, it might be reasonable to assume they are thinking "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?" or
in other words, why should they spend a butt load of money on defence when the brits and americans still have a significant presence their. But that would only be a small
factor seeing as 20-30k troops is only a small number. Just a thought i had the other day. The main reason of course is they want to stay away from militarizing cause of ww2 and the stigma they still deal with
User avatar #232 - stalkersgonnastalk (10/19/2012) [-]
the german army might be quite small but those fuckers are very heavily armed. the G36 assault rifle is real killer at up to 1km (while the american m4 goes up to 400m-600m) and the leopards are extremely fast tanks while packing a lot of firepower. they kinda suck at air force but still. also most german military producers from WW2 went into the private sector and now produce the best of the best in personal weaponry (H&K). the american and british presence in germany might be small (Rammstein AFB is the only base i think) but its a full military presence starting with tanks and going all the way up to heavy bombers (B52s i think) personaly i think it sucks that germany is not allowed to have a full military :/
