Some devs make the game unplayable I think one of the painkiller games if you crack it the game will spawn an unkillable super fast scorpian devil thing with duel machine guns and can phase through walls.

The real answer is that if it made the game not work, then a crack would fix it out of necessity. Things like this they don't give a fuck about and isn't worth their time, so they leave them in.
Is it worth it to make it uncrackable? Well that costs an absolute fuckton of money. Further it
be cracked. The most advanced anti-pirating tech is Denovu and their strategy, self-admittedly, is that a game makes almost all of it's sales in the first two weeks... so just make it hard enough to crack so it gets past that point.
On top of that, many developers don't believe in DRM. It inconveniences real users and it's use is debatable. I mean, a person pirating your game likely isn't going to buy it even if no pirated copies exist. So just let them play along with people who have legitimate reasons for not purchasing, since your goal is to bring people joy. The other people will buy your game and support your regardless.

Don't really think there has been a dev that has managed that yet. I don't think Arma 2 was ever successfully cracked
Side note, best anti-crack ever. First the game would throw off your aim a little bit. Then a lot, like your rifle w/ red dot aimed down sights would land 2 feet from you even when aimed down range. Then after a long enough period they turned you into a fucking seagull until you reset the game.
But just about every game that has tried anything serious has had workarounds. Whether it was making the game laggy or damn near unplayable, the guys who make cracks have gotten it down to a science. So now it's just a matter of time for a game to be cracked and any drm/anti-piracy methods removed. At this point in time it's more just a waste of a developers time, because no matter the method it will be solved. With a billion fuckers on the internet there will be the one neckbeard who can write the code to crack whatever a dev comes up with.
The fact that we can still have hackers going through major companies to steal data shows that. If a multi-billion dollar company can't keep a shit load of data secure, how do we expect game developers to prevent people from playing GTAIV without driving wonky.
Some developers do, others just like to fuck with people who do.

people are more likely to pay for games from developers they like, and developers with a sense of humour is something people like.
It really depends on the developers, some care highly about it, others not so much. In their case I doubt they really wanted to discourage people.
I feel like not letting people pirate your games is a good way to get sales
except that it's quite difficult to prevent it, sure you can put on some denuvo shit that takes a long time to crack, but a smaller company that just does something like this? it won't accomplish shit, it'll get patched soon and that'll be it.
