Well I have a classmate that still tries to make me watch it. And he starts to get angry after I say that I don't feel like it. After that he will just keep repeating that is is awesome and that I should start watching it with a more aggressive undertone in his voice.
It is the funniest thing to see.

eh, you only mentioned one though.
lots of people don't want to join the military for personal/political/philosophical/ reasons.
name another place that's "always hiring" please.
this isn't bait, I actually want to hear ideas, i've already applied for pretty much everywhere.
when even macdonalds is getting 20 people applying per opening, you know something is fucked.
#219 - iamnuff (04/20/2014) [-]
police require massive amounts of training before you can even consider applying.
(seriously, police acadamy is a thing, if you need a job for money now, then that's not going to help.
even worse than in some places (not sure about here) you have to PAY your way through the training, which makes it basically impossible for anyone who doesn't already have a good job.
I wanted to be a policeman striahgt from school but i was told I didn't meet the physical requirements (the height one, actually, though I grew a lot since then)
firemen need even more training and qualifications, and even then, you might not have a job at the end of it (I know a guy who's a volunteer firefighter , because he went through the training and at the end of it, they didn't have the budget to hire the whole group, so he does the exact same thing the others do, but three days a week, and he doesn't get paid.
as for cabbies, why would you think that?
taxi companies are privately owned businesses. drivers work shifts like everyone else.
also, you need a special licence to drive a cab, which also forces you to take a several week course (which you have to pay for)

see i'm, from london, so i'm not exactly sure how it works's where ever you are from but around my area you don't have to pay to get into the police, and you need nearly zero qualifications to be a fireman just basic fitness. However if i am totally honest i know little about the job market, in the end i'm a middle class white kid in a London Suburb, a fairly ghetto suburb but none the less a well to do area, so in all honesty i'm not qualified ore knowledgeable enough to completely know what i'm talking about

uh, i live in england too.
i can say pretty clearly that you need special training to be both a fireman and a policeman.
if you go straight from school/collage, you can get the training funded by government programs, but if you just up and decide "i want to be a cop" one day, you have to pay out of pocket.
unless they have a recruitment drive going on (but that falls under Government funding, so...)
I'm also a middle-class white kid in a decent nabourhood.
that said, "middle-class" might not really by applicable any-more.
the big rash of redundances going round hit me and my family hard, mother finally managed to get a new teaching job (not teaching in school, or college, like she used to, now she's teaching people how to write CV's to apply for jobs, which is a sad sign of the times, if ever there was one.) but i'm still applying for damn near everything I can physically get to.
anyone who says "jobs aren't that hard to find" is either already employed somewhere and hasn't really taken a look at the job-market in atleast a couple of years, or lives in some sort of dream world.
i can see why, my mother got job offers every couple of months at her previous place, then suddenly she was "redundant" and all the places that were offering her jobs before were losing half there staff.
the whole thing happened over the course of about 2-3 months.
sudden as fuck.

#155 - politetroll (04/20/2014) [-]
I'd say young people actually have a better grasp of politics than a lot of older people do actually. When I was in uni I met a lot of hardheaded political extremists, mostly liberals, and I would often argue with them. For the most part, because they're in a transitional stage where they haven't solidly cemented their beliefs, they're much more open to debate. Now that I'm out of uni and into the workforce, the conversations I have regarding politics are a lot less interesting. Maybe that's just the difference between being in a workforce and being in university, I don't know, but I think your hating on young people with beliefs is a bit elitist of you.
Thumb me down please.
#176 - Gandalfthewhite (04/20/2014) [-]
I'm not going to thumb you down, i'm a young guy myself (18) and am currently studying government and politics and it's because of that that i have sort of developed a slight irritation at people my age discussing politics. This is mostly because i've spoken to their parents who have said word for word the exact same thing's their kid's have said which leads me to believe that they have pretty much copied exactly what their parents say
#212 - politetroll (04/20/2014) [-]
Well, their parents are definitely the people they've spent the most time with, so it's natural there would be a lot of overlap in their beliefs. Also, I definitely understand the frustration of someone educated trying to discuss a subject that the other party is less educated on. I'm sure a graduate student studying physics who was trying to talk about quantum mechanics with a history major would find the person irritating, but the difference is in day to day life quantum mechanics doesn't need to be talked about. One of the most frustrating things for me in uni was when students of one discipline or another were getting irritated when someone from another discipline tried to discuss their studies with them. Most of the learning that happened when I was in uni wasn't in the classroom, and I like to think I'm a well rounded individual now because I interacted with not only engineering students, but history, psychology, poli-sci, all those other things. Getting irritated with people who don't know as much about something as you is fruitless, and as long as you're not a dick about it they're usually really open to legitimate arguments.
#286 - Gandalfthewhite (04/21/2014) [-]
see the thing is, one of the people who irritate me most is a friend of around 12-13 years who has studdied the same course of politics as me for around a year who to this day will not even except to the slightest any recognition of the other side in politics, she is firmly dogmatic in her belief's in what ever her mother says about any form of politics. To her it is either labour (Britain's watered down version of socialism) or you're a fascist scumbag who want's to exterminate gay's and minorities. it's that frustrating for me
#41 - rainbowrush (04/20/2014) [-]
That annoys me as well, but believe me when I say there are a lot of people under 25 that knows their shit. I've learned most everything of politics in my own country, cause I find that shit hilarious. I know a small bit about american politics, as much as the average american anyhow. You're right that most people under 25 don't know what they're talking about, but neither do most people over 25. We've come to a point where people disregard what someone says just because of where they stand, or their age. I find this even worse. I've learnt a lot from people under 25 when it comes to american politics, you just have to listen.
