Jesus christ, the people below are fighting over how a tree dies.
I'm not sure how much lower the internet can stoop.

no you're a fucking idiot, an easy method to kill a tree is to remove a 2 inch strip of bark around the entire width of the tree, its the only way for the tree to pass nutrients and water dumbfuck
removing all of the bark of the tree will definitely kill the tree

"bark" in the botanical sense includes the tissue in which phloem reside. Removing bark removes phloem from that area, essentially starving the lower half of the tree (glucose runs from source to sink). Xylem can still function, but the tree will die due to lack of glucose.

It will only live if xylem is undamaged. This is an extreme example of girdling, which kills every bit of the tree above the missing bark, unless the xylem is ok.

Are you serious, or are you just not educated in tree care? Removing all the bark (which does look rather healthy) makes the tree far more susceptible to other infections.
Image removing all of your skin because you had shingles on a portion of your skin. Well now you are way more susceptible to other viruses and infections because you don't have the barrier of protection that is your skin. It is the same with trees. You don't remove all the bark because of an infection, instead you treat the infection properly.
This is someone who has over 30+ years in the tree service and landscaping business.

In addition, I do have to say that it looks cool and I've always wanted to do the same thing.
