There arent classes within the assault rifle class other than "bullpup" or "traditional layout". The category of weapons in use by 3rd world countries and militant groups can literally include any weapon that can be found, stolen, or purchased.

It was made specifically to be classified as an assault rifle after the Soviets saw how potent the German Stg 44 was

At the time of the AK's design and manufacture, the Soviet Union was well on its way to becoming a military superpower, second only to the US. So it was most certainly not designed for a borderline 3rd world country

"Its class" doesnt exsist. No one makes weapons geared toward 3rd world countries. They use whatever is there, as long as it shoots a bullet.

... It wasn't made to be classified, it was made then classified. Then again yes it was, it was cheap and designed for a borderline 3rd world country.

Yeah sure, but that doesnt qualify it as the best assault rifle. To figure that out, you have to factor in weight, capacity, chambering, reliability, repairability, compatibility, producibility, accuracy, rate of fire, and so much more.

Just cause its used by every 3rd world country and militant uprising since '47 doesnt mean its the best. It just means its cheap and abundant.

And the crappiest quality, the least accurate, the most uncontrollable recoil, and the least compatibility with any kind of weapon attachment.

Maybe not the "worst" in all those but you get the idea.
#244 - The Last Templar (02/09/2011) [-]
True, but it's also a 60 year old design, it was an amazing gun for it's time, and the 47 isn't the only model of AK available, it's just the most abundant.

Let me rephrase that: But is though... for a basic guerrilla hit and run force, which is what its used for. Not for snipers. It shoots a high(er) caliber round and is cheap as hell. So for its class of AR, it is.
