We don't care because we don't have to. We constantly challenge authority because such a thing allows true authority to actually rise up and lead. We're not going to care, especially from simply being told "we should" because that sort of thing opens doors up for the wrong sort of shit, like respecting authority for the sake of respecting the authority, and not for the merit that made the authority the authority in the first place. It makes to where when we do care, it actually means something.

Not all countries that host the Olympics have kings yet the flag doesn't dip. it doesn't dip to any of the counties that've hosted the Olympics where as every other country does it to show respect and sportsmanship to the host. In fact you have a comity that decides to dip or not which in my opinion is just the definition of faggotry.
User avatar #116 - lolollo (02/16/2015) [-]
"The definition of faggotry"

What? Ignoring the fact that my comment was with respect to why the guy in the content didn't want to dip the flag and not some broad statement that "If you're not america, you're a monarchy" it still stands that the american philosophy on governments is that tradition that solely exists to try and suggest superiority of one government/country over another is useless. "Why should we dip our flag for you?" "It's manners." Under whose principle? What function does it play aside from "it's manners"? We salute officers as per the old roman tradition of showing your right hand to show benevolent intent, not because of manners. We don't dip the flag under the question of why we'd have to, which was what the country was founded on in the first place, asking "why".
User avatar #127 - csgtsheep (02/16/2015) [-]
The guy in the content didn't dip the flag cause he was a butthurt Irishman that you guys for some reason gave the flag too.
The Olympics are in every sense of the word a competition and tournament for the world to unite under and shake hands and generally forget about the politics and ideologies of said country and, to show the respect to the country thats hosting, the visting country displays that they're thankful for the effort thats been put into building up these special arenas and sporting competition grounds and making the whole event possible for another 17 days of dedication to every sporting event that the world can all participate in, by dipping a flag. Its not hard but it speaks volumes about the country and its motivation/dedication to sportsmanship.
The only time I know where other countries have actually gotten behind the american idea of not dipping said flag was the 1936 games and even then it was only a few countries joining you.
User avatar #129 - lolollo (02/16/2015) [-]
Alright, I can tell this issue is making you a little more salty than I'm betting you're willing to admit, so when you're a little less belligerent you can get back to me and actually make some sense.
User avatar #135 - csgtsheep (02/16/2015) [-]
Sorry mate can you elaborate on where I didn't make sense? I mean I know I had a lack of grammar in that paragraph but hell I thought it still made enough sense to be legible.
I was just trying to speak on why it makes sense for the flag to be dipped. If you can't see why it should then I genuinely feel sorry for your country.
User avatar #140 - lolollo (02/16/2015) [-]
For one, the guy's nationality has nothing to do with his ability to hold a flag, or be a part of a certain nationality Seriously, I'm Irish. Am I not allowed to hold the American flag either?. Second, the Olympics were established to celebrate nationalistic differences, not abolish them. It's friendly competition DESPITE cultural differences, not without them. And third, showing respect is something, but like I said the states were founded on questioning authority and holding that authority to justifying, and making sense with their policies, hence "We salute to show benevolence with that benevolence being founded in the idea of "I don't want to kill you." , not just because you told me to." It's Europe's custom to dip the flag at the host nation's flag. It's American custom to not give in to customs that don't have an expressed purpose. So then who's being rude for not recognizing the other's customs?
User avatar #154 - csgtsheep (02/17/2015) [-]
"the guy's nationality has nothing to do with...or be a part of a certain nationality" Top Kek.
The nationality is an issue in this case as the guy was first generation Irish, with known and obvious hatred of the English Not trying to turn this into a potatoe/no potatoe argument. I've not said anything about abolishing cultural differences or not celebrating your countries best atheltes if it was truely holding every cultural difference in place and making sure that every religion or ideology had a place in the event then Black/jewish atheltes shouldn't have been allowed to compete in the 1936 games. All women at the games should cover up their bodies if the devout Muslims were to be culturally respected. There should be no guns at the games if most European policy's and ideology's are to be respected. This is why theres no place for whatever you believe in sports, everyone is respected, everyone is treated the same. But when your country is just dedicated to insulting others by not showing respect at the start for the sake of being different I just don't think you should even be invited to compete. I never said it was europes custom since the Olympics have been a global event for god knows how many years now.
User avatar #160 - lolollo (02/17/2015) [-]
Yes you are trying to turn it into that kind of argument, you're trying to schluff off the reason he did it under the guise of xenophobia on his part. It's not. Now stop trying to use that as a point, it's retarded as fuck. He's an american citizen, no less than I am.

Now find a real point to support your argument.
User avatar #173 - csgtsheep (02/17/2015) [-]
I think my point is still there since America still doesn't dip the flag and every other country that competes in the Olympics does. Not just the European ones.
Just because I had something to say on the fact that the fellow in question was using his underlying sense of politics and his own (& most of his teams) personal agenda to not celebrate sportsmanship, doesn't mean that the rest of my argument isn't valid. You must be out of ways to defend yourself & your point.
User avatar #175 - lolollo (02/17/2015) [-]
Then what do you have against the point that America doesn't dip its flag because it doesn't see the need to? Because so far it's simply been a statement on the flag holder's original nationality.
User avatar #192 - csgtsheep (02/17/2015) [-]
"to show the respect to the country thats hosting, the visiting country displays that they're thankful for the effort thats been put into building up these special arenas and sporting competition grounds and making the whole event possible for another 17 days of dedication to every sporting event that the world can all participate in, by dipping a flag. Its not hard but it speaks volumes about the country and its motivation/dedication to sportsmanship."
America doesn't do this sign of respect for what reason? "because it doesn't see the need to?" that just makes you/them look like arseholes for no particular reason other than the fact that they want to appear different and show that they have next to no respect for any other countries leaders or efforts. Thats how it comes across to me at least.
The other paragraphs I've written here have only been relevent to the American holding the flag in, near enough, just the first sentence.
User avatar #193 - lolollo (02/17/2015) [-]
Because the United States was founded on the principle that rules and traditions need to have an expressed purpose as to WHY they're rules and traditions aside from "Because we said so" and that questioning rules and authority is the healthiest thing for the validity of that authority?
User avatar #202 - csgtsheep (02/17/2015) [-]
Its pretty obvious to me you're really not thinking about any of this here. Do you need to see it in writing that you HAVE to do it in order for you to do it? maybe that explains a lot about the sentiment of the country. Its not a matter of authority its a matter of respect the simple fact that you don't seem to understand that showing respect to some people is just a kindness and not doing it is seen as pathetic, especially as this is a competition for the world to compete in, think about it you'd say GG after a match in CSGO or someshit like that. is just mindblowing.
You're not going to learn I can see that so theres really no point in my attempt to even explain common goddamned sense to people like yourself.
Have a nice day.
User avatar #212 - lolollo (02/17/2015) [-]
"And not doing so is seen as pathetic."

No...it's seen as rude. What makes it pathetic? You've got your head so far up the ass of "You need to feel ashamed of yourself" that you're starting to use irrelevant words to make me blindly accept your point under the guise of "Oh no, I don't want that word associated with me!"

Ironically, that is pathetic.

I've never been to Sonora. I've been along the Mexican side of the boarder in Chihuahua for a while and it wan't pretty. My father stuck mostly to the rural arias so his accounts couldn't tell of all of Mexico. It was unfair of me to judge a nation off my limited perception of it. It wouldn't be fair if someone were to judge all of the US on Detroit or Canada on Quebec.
I again am sorry for my impoliteness.

Unfortunately Chihuahua is one of the States that has been ravaged by the drug war. And whatever you do, stay clear from the northeast.

Jeez, where do you live? I've been to Mexico once or twice and my father lived their for three years. He came back forty pounds underweight. I'm our experiences are very different. I'm sorry if I sounded rude.

Agree, I live in both Piedras Negras, Coah. and Eagle Pass, Tx. just 5 min in car and 1 hr in the fucking bridge. You can't go out in Piedras Negras past 10pm, because there are over 10 roadblocks, atleast 2 shootings with cars, and recently people around 15 year old missing.
PS: The picture shows a friend of mine dress in gray suit called Chuy and her sister yaritza or yadira (I can't remember I didn't want to get near her too much) to celebrate her XV (a mexican tradition) with an artist Gloria Trevi and some other known in Mexico, I'm glad I didn't took pictures with the artist, because they're in the internet and Gates,Marines and soldiers went to the houses of the ones that took pictures.
For obvious reasons I rather anonymous, I just wanted to share.

Yes I'm from texas, muggers aren't even a problem in that part of mexico. There are two cartels, gulf cartel and South if I'm correct. The rest of Mexico that isn't is just full of poor people or tourist attractions.

Oh there are more cartels than the gulf and south pacific cartel. But the worst of the all are the fucking Zetas.
