Texans are proud of Texas. Ohio and Michigan have a huge state rivalry, same with Kansas and Missouri. Ohio and Michigan have even went to war with each other before. When you are in the US, people will call themselves Ohioan or New Yorker, it is just to make it easier for foreigners we just say we are American.

The way you guys say New Yorker is the equivelant of us saying Scouse for people who live in Liverpool or Mancunian for people who live in Manchester.

You can argue as much as you want- and you do sound very passionate about this and have done more research than me so I can't argue back, but you're wrong, in my opinion, and that's all I have to say on the matter. Good night.

Why don't you look up the articles of the Confederation. The US government started out like the EU is now. Loose collection of countries that allied together for protection against your country. As time went on the Federal government became stronger so the US is more unified as it is today. Still states run our education, transportation, drug laws, taxes, and many other things separately.

The only difference between states in the US and the kingdoms in the United Kingdom is we don't let petty differences and our past make us hate each other.

LOL a Brit doesn't know what state means? State is a synonym for country. Here is the definition for state.

a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government.
"Germany, Italy, and other European states"
synonyms: country, nation, land, sovereign state, nation state, kingdom, realm, power, republic, confederation, federation
"an autonomous state"

See how Germany and Italy are listed? And you call me ignorant.

Maybe so, but weren't the United States founded originally as one country? The fact that the UK were originally 4 countries still makes them 4 countries in my opinion and in many others. It's not to be ''different'' it's because I am very patriotic to my English heritage and Scottish people are proud of theirs, and Irish people are proud of theirs, and Welsh people are proud of theirs. You don't hear people in Ohio talking about how they're Ohian and not American, lol.

No, no, not at all. My original point was that this post is about countries that border each other, and in my opinion it makes a lot more sense to make a seperate one for the countries of the UK rather than include them in Europe, and bundle them as the UK. You could make one for the seperate states of the US, in fact, maybe not 50, just ones with famous border things.

#12 - I hate how England, Scotland, Wales & northern ireland are…  [+] (19 new replies) 09/04/2014 on Borders around the world +1

There is no difference between those regions of the UK and US states. Sorry but you guys are one country now.
User avatar #14 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
The UK and the US are two completely different things, I can't tell if you're joking or not really.
User avatar #15 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
Exactly how does Wales operate differently than Texas?
User avatar #16 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
In what sense?
User avatar #17 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
How is Wales more a separate country than Texas? Why does Wales deserve its own ball?
User avatar #18 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
It's not a HOW does it, it's an IT is. In my opinion, all of the US states could be countries, but they are not. What you are saying, basically, is all of the countries in Europe can and SHOULD be states, as why should they be countries when Texas isn't? If all of the states were countries, the US would suck and would end up at war with each other.
User avatar #20 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
They are no longer separate countries is my point. So they should not be treated as separate countries. Speaking of which, why the hell do they get their own soccer teams for UEFA?
User avatar #22 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
When you talk like that you sound extremely ignorant. Have you not heard of Scotland trying to get independence? We are not all one country, and you saying so makes you sound somebody who has no idea about the UK.
User avatar #23 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
Have you heard of Texas trying to get independence? Sure it isn't as serious, but it is the same thing. You are all one country. Just because you at one point were not all one country doesn't change the fact you are all one country now. Should Germany ball be split up into Bavaria, Brandenburg, Saxony, Westphalia, etc?

This isn't ignorance about the UK. This is the UK trying to act like they are different when they are not.
User avatar #24 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
I'm done talking to you, you have a really stupid opinion. The UK means UNITED KINGDOMS. It is 4 different kingdoms, 4 different countries united. Not 4 different countries combined together to make one.
User avatar #26 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
The US mean UNITED STATES. It is 50 different states, 50 different countries united. Not 50 different countries combined together to make one. See how stupid that sounds?
User avatar #25 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
And before you say ''OH BUT UNITED STATES'' - The clues in the name, STATES.
User avatar #27 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
LOL a Brit doesn't know what state means? State is a synonym for country. Here is the definition for state.

a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government.
"Germany, Italy, and other European states"
synonyms: country, nation, land, sovereign state, nation state, kingdom, realm, power, republic, confederation, federation
"an autonomous state"

See how Germany and Italy are listed? And you call me ignorant.
User avatar #28 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
Maybe so, but weren't the United States founded originally as one country? The fact that the UK were originally 4 countries still makes them 4 countries in my opinion and in many others. It's not to be ''different'' it's because I am very patriotic to my English heritage and Scottish people are proud of theirs, and Irish people are proud of theirs, and Welsh people are proud of theirs. You don't hear people in Ohio talking about how they're Ohian and not American, lol.
User avatar #30 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
Texans are proud of Texas. Ohio and Michigan have a huge state rivalry, same with Kansas and Missouri. Ohio and Michigan have even went to war with each other before. When you are in the US, people will call themselves Ohioan or New Yorker, it is just to make it easier for foreigners we just say we are American.
User avatar #31 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
The way you guys say New Yorker is the equivelant of us saying Scouse for people who live in Liverpool or Mancunian for people who live in Manchester.

You can argue as much as you want- and you do sound very passionate about this and have done more research than me so I can't argue back, but you're wrong, in my opinion, and that's all I have to say on the matter. Good night.
User avatar #29 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
Why don't you look up the articles of the Confederation. The US government started out like the EU is now. Loose collection of countries that allied together for protection against your country. As time went on the Federal government became stronger so the US is more unified as it is today. Still states run our education, transportation, drug laws, taxes, and many other things separately.

The only difference between states in the US and the kingdoms in the United Kingdom is we don't let petty differences and our past make us hate each other.
User avatar #19 - damping (09/05/2014) [-]
My point is that the United States is a group of separate countries technically. Just like the UK. If we made four balls for every time we wanted to put the UK, it would logically follow that we would have to put 50 balls for every time we put the US.
User avatar #21 - FishInABowl (09/05/2014) [-]
No, no, not at all.
