jakatackka (06/07/2013) [-] I don't know where you live, but here in the States, fast food is dirt cheap. You can get a meal for $2 at McDonald's (2 McDoubles or McChickens). The key thing, though, is time. Some people are lazy, but many others are just too poor. Regardless, though, a fast food dinner takes a couple of minutes, compared to much longer if you cook at home. Also, he's not arguing that they eat fast food 24/7. Poorer people (and I mean really poor, like some people I know (like my best friend (I like parentheses))) can only afford heavily processed, cheap foods. Ramen is cheaper than fast food for sure, but it isn't much healthier, and chicken pot pies, TV dinners, and the like are very unhealthy, laden with trans fats and nasty chemicals. Can you buy a large bag of rice and feed your family with it for a week? Sure you can, but unless you're in a truly desperate situation, you'd never subject yourself or your family to such an unbalanced and bland diet. I am well aware of the fact that McDonald's is cheap. I live in CO. But what about every other fast food place we have? Those aren't so cheap. Not everyone goes to just McDonald's all the time. Also, I am well aware that he is not arguing that they eat fast food all the time. But, as he has said, it is "the main staple of their diet". They would probably be saving a ton of money if it was NOT the main staple in their diet. You don't have to live off of pot pies, ramen, or TV dinners. If I was so poor that I'd have to live off of rice, I'm pretty sure I would not be able to afford fast food either. #170 -

jiltist (06/08/2013) [-] I live on 5400 a year. While I do not have any dependents, I am physically very healthy because I eat healthy and I exercise, yet I'm still able to support hobbies and pay for electrolysis. To say that someone who makes even 25,000 a year can't support four children financially is ridiculous. Granted, there would be little to no supervision for them, but that's life. Plenty of kids grow up without parental supervision, though usually to ill effect. | Again, not all the food they eat is fast food, it is the main staple of their diet, and you have no idea how hard it is unless you are the person with that small of a budget. you people dont know these people so its unfair for you to just say this way of life is easier than the one you are living. I do know how hard it is to live on that small of a budget. I grew up poor as shit. Not to mention that I am not living at home any more. I'm probably worse off than they are with my waitressing job. Is fast food the staple of my diet? Hell no. It's expensive as shit. I'm not saying I don't ever go out and eat, because I do, but the majority of food I eat is bought at the store because it's drastically cheaper. If we don't know these people, why the fuck are you bringing their story to the internet? People are going to criticize how they live their life and feed their family because this family doesn't understand how much more expensive fast food is than going to the store. If you don't like that, maybe you should not be using them as an example for your argument. #127 -
