It sucks as much as you let it. As long as you understand that whatever the RDCs (recruit division commanders) say or do isn't personal, you pay attention to detail (You'll learn what that means very quickly), and understand your TRUE RTC Maxium (It doesn't end with "nor tolerate those among us who do"), you'll enjoy it.
Plus, if your an E-1 when you ship out, you automatically get E-2 if you pass your first PFA. If you're an E-2, you might not have a chance to advance as your RDCs might decide to fill all the advancable positions with E-1s. If you're an E-3 when you ship out, keep your head down and just get through it. Stay under the radar. You can't gain anything by sticking your neck out, but make sure you help your fellow recruits out.
You know how to fold? Teach that. Know how to iron? Teach that. Know how to march? Teach that. But for the love of God, if they ask you if you know how to file paperwork or know any administrative work DO NOT TELL THEM. LIE IF THEY ASK YOU. They'll make you the Yeoman for your division and those two months will be the worst thing in life. Trust me, my yeoman was in his early twenties when he was chosen. When we graduated, the fucker looked like he was almost forty.
