That's what I got from your comment, Pink slime is considered an additive that cuts down fat content, and is only for limited human consumption which is why it should only be used as an additive , and yes if some amount is added to Ground chuck or other ground beef you can still legally say it is 100% beef, you just can't say its pure beef.

I'm a butcher, I'm expected to know these things.

I think that if you look up USDA regulations, you will see otherwise.

I worded my other comment really badly. Sorry about that. You can have something like 15 or 20 percent Would have to look up numbers to be sure, but I know it's in that area. pink slime and still say "100% beef".

Um... you're wrong. The beef isn't from different parts of an animal. It's the leftover meat from sirloins, ribeyes and other whole muscle cuts. It's just processed to removed the extra fat and keep the beef trimmings.
User avatar #345 - Deeticky (02/23/2014) [-]
Sirloins, ribeyes, and different muscle cuts do come from different parts of an animal... So I don't understand how that makes me wrong? Unless you thought I was trying to say something like they put the bones and the brains in there? If so, I apologize. That was not my intention.

Not according to the USDA.
User avatar #344 - Deeticky (02/23/2014) [-]
To clarify, I believe that something like 15 or twenty percent pink slime can still count as 100 percent ground beef here in the U.S., but I may have to look those numbers up. (I know it's in that general area) If my previous comment made it sound like I was saying 100 percent pink slime counted as 100 percent beef, I apologize. I should have clarified that better.

Ya the big thing though is that it's kinda safe for a drug. Alcohol and tobacco can be hell on the body and so can weed just to a lesser extent. And it's one of those things like tobacco where you have to be aiming to OD to actually succeed, if it's possible even. There was just a ridiculous amount needed to OD.
User avatar #172 - Deeticky (01/27/2014) [-]
Yeah, I'm not super worried about the people OD'ing. I'm not even worried that much about the physical health effects when weed is prescribed and regulated. (Self medicating from a street dealer is a different story though) The problem with prescription marijuana is that it's far too easy for someone to have it prescribed to them. I would support medical legalization if that problem were more well-addressed.

I'm more worried the mental effects of pot. It can be addictive, it slows motor function and reaction time, it lowers inhibitions, it can make certain people more prone to anger, and long term use can result in a wide range of issues including memory problems and decreased cognitive function. It can have a lot of the same mental effects of alcohol. People who drive high can be a real problem, just like drunk drivers.

The other thing that gets on my nerves is stoner culture. Not every stoner is part of that culture. (You seem pretty reasonable, for instance.) But nonetheless, stoner culture is pretty widespread. It encourages laziness, carries a "fuckdapolice" mindset, and members of the stoner culture are more likely to become addicted and/or try harder drugs.

About what I just said though, There hasnt been a whole lot of research on stoner culture vs. casual smokers. I've had a lot of experiences with stoner culture members, and none of them were good. They were extremely hostile to anyone who didn't smoke pot, and always preached on that "pot would create world peace" and usually thought of themselves as superior without ever actually working hard at anything. The vast majority of them also got into harder drugs such as LSD, ecstasy, and crack as they became juniors and seniors in highschool. I'm pretty sure all of them ended up dropping out or going to community college as well.

That's not scientific research, just my experience. I don't expect anyone to accept my experience as scientific fact, but I would like to see some studies done on stoner culture.

only times i felt my heart rate change was when the weed had some other shit mixed in
other than that it was fine
User avatar #152 - Deeticky (01/27/2014) [-]
Ok. That's good to hear that your experience hasn't led to an extreme heart rate increase. Other people, like those in the studies cited at the bottom of the website I sourced, experienced that effect. I'm not trying to say pot is more dangerous than pother drugs like alchohol, I'm just saying that just because people don't OD on it doesn't mean it can't have negative health effects or kill you.

Why the fuck should you trust a site created by the government, the same government which has made illegal on a federal lvl? Enlighten me.
User avatar #163 - Deeticky (01/27/2014) [-]
I'm not asking you to have blind faith in the government. Blind opposition to the government is just as bad though. Anyway, I'll list some reasons why you can trust that data even though it is being explained on a .gov website.

1: The government didn't do the studies. There have been multiple studies done on the effects of pot, and there is a link at the bottom of the page that gives the scientific sources that the conclusions were based off of. You can feel free to review those studies. They're provided for you.

2: It's actually a fairly common stereotype for stoners to worry about the increased heart rate. There are tons of posts all over the web, yahoo answers, and stoner forums about people worrying about their heart rate, which they feel has gone out of control.
