Made all the worse due to the fact that mtg is very pay to win. cards are cheaper (though still too expensive for anyone with little money to waste). This means that a larger range of rich kids (now including upper middle rather than just upper class) just buy their way to victory. The online thing makes the problem worse.
As someone who plays/played
I stoped for a bit idk if I'd start again
, I couldn't agree more. Basically if you play irl, you have to play the new best stuff to win, and getting absolutely crushed is no fun. Online, everyone plays the new best stuff cause its free so there's no reason to play the less good stuff.
Basically if you want to have fun playing a tcg you need friends to play with, and who abide by a code of conduct
usually unwritten, but it's like "no kirby" in the original smash bros, cause then it'd be boring
that lets everyone have fun.
The sad part is that there is an easy fix. Just make rarity only foil based, not game based. Make all mythics rareand all rares uncommon. Then add in different tiers if foil (like yugioh did) and there you go. Colectors can collect foils and players have a fair shot of pulling usable cards.
There are already plenty of usable cards. The problem is only the best win these days. Basically, unless you play with friends, if you're not playing what's new, you're probably gonna lose. And as someone without infinite money, buying packs is a waste of money if you can't enjoy every card you pull. At least magic does power creep better. Yugioh has really annoying power creep.
Or just have broke friends who play modern. The only times I but cards are either one prerelease each year, out the occasional pack when I have a five to spare. Most of my collection
a crate originally used to hide howitzer ammunition
is handed down or traded for. Admittedly, some was stolen, but not by me.

Then again, Harry had to go live with extended family after his parents were killed by gang violence, dood.
