As someone who´s been part of the metal scene since he was 13...he´s kinda right.
User avatar
#79 - shrinkzz (07/13/2016) [-]
I've been "in the scene" since about the same age. I really don't think "most metal" is anti-everything. And full of crackheads? Say what now? I don't know a single one.
User avatar
#80 - ljxjlos (07/13/2016) [-]
Well, big parts of the metal scene are elitist as fuck. Thus against other genres, against change in their genres, against dressing differently, which is kinda ironic, etc, etc.

That´s why I like the music but hate the fucking scene.
User avatar
#81 - shrinkzz (07/13/2016) [-]
Well yeah, but hating other genres and other fashion is not the same as being anti-everything. There's a lot of metal with political lyrics as well.
User avatar
#50 - wheteverlol (07/13/2016) [-]
And yet I have not seen people who listen to metal going around killing everything in their path. I have however seen people who listen to rap going around smoking pot, driving dangerously, being gang members and killing each other.
User avatar
#76 - ljxjlos (07/13/2016) [-]
>what is Black Metal in the 90s?

Also, if you think metalheads don´t smoke pot or drive dangerously, you´re in for a treat.
User avatar
#87 - ljxjlos (07/13/2016) [-]
Yeah, sorry, but those studies are bullshit of the grade of "why metal listeners are the better people" or "why metalheads are more intelligent".

Most people listen to a vast mix of genres and really...judging someones driving skills because of his music? No offense but that´s rather retarded. That´s like saying "bread eaters are shit in bed" or "beer drinkers are louder then wine drinkers"
User avatar
#91 - wheteverlol (07/13/2016) [-]
You're telling me you saw the reply alert read these two links and then wrote your reply and all that 2.5 minutes?

And I'm not judging weather or not someone's driving skills is related to his musical tastes I'm saying music has an effect on your brain and everyone knows that.
User avatar
#93 - ljxjlos (07/13/2016) [-]
No, I didn´t because I don´t need to - everybody can do a "study" on a subject and people will believe it´s based on a scientific foundation just because it says study - as I said, there are "studies" that found out that metalheads are more intelligent people, etc, etc - that´s all bullshit.

I´m not a professional but I´ve got my bachelors in child psychology - music DOES have an effect on your brain, but "effect on your brain" doesn´t mean "mysteriously makes you dumb or gives you superpowers", it means that it can change your mood. No fucking genre, be it classic or be it country made by inbred, moonshine-addicted rednecks, will change your Abilities to think or react.

No, but it can affect how you act. Aggressively, calmly to a situation.
Kids in particular since if they are surrounded by an environment that tells them to "popp a bullet in that guy" or "smoke weed and fuck bitches" they will see that as something cool and be more inclined to go to that direction.

Okay the first study is based on 2 polls done from magazines and police information of the UK so I can't do any more fact checking but they were posted on a well known UK newspaper site so I assume they did some research

The second study
The study was conducted by BGU Director of Music Science Research Warren Brodsky and researcher Zack Slor

Warren Brodsky is Professor of Music Psychology and Director of the Music Science Laboratory, in the Department of the Arts at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel.

After a ten-year clinical practice, Warren completed a PhD in Psychology.

Tell me the percent of cases in which the killers (who were most probably mentally ill) were heavy metal or death metal fans (subgenres not metal metal) And I would argue that the percentage of blacks who commit crimes and listen to rap is at least 10 times bigger.

Ask anyone who listens to metal if they believe they should go around and kill everything they see and then ask anyone who listens to rap if they think rap is the absolute truth in music form depending on the "artist" of course. And tell me how many people you found on each case.

You see rap is about truth and about life. And this is why most white people don't listen to rap, except maybe for Eminem's rap. Rap is about smoking weed and being in gang and killing other gangs something most white people do not partake in. And this is why whites like Eminem's rap, because at first it was about silly stuff and how his life was difficult and now it's about how he fucked his life over, something I at least understand and would not want to happen to me.

By the way a quote from wikipedia "many came to believe that Manson's music and imagery were, indeed, Harris and Klebold's sole motivation,[85] despite later reports that the two were not fans.[79][86]

#77 - ljxjlos (07/13/2016) [-]
Do...do you even KNOW any rap? The rap you´re talking about is a very, very small percentage of all artists.

I disagree. Trap rap music is very popular right now and appeals a lot to thug culture. What is mostly trending is always the same: club, money, women or "bitches", drugs and violence. I listen to rap and I'm being honest about it.
User avatar
#125 - samxdaxman (07/13/2016) [-]
It is popular yes, but for every trap rapper there are 3 more indie rappers who are making infinitely better music.
User avatar
#127 - strobler (07/13/2016) [-]
Yes I partly agree. but popular is the key word here. This is what the majority of people listen to. It is that will affect more people. Now, you also have to take into account that these supposedly '3 indie rappers' can make rap music which also appeal to thug culture.

For kids who see these rappers as role models it can lead to a disconnection between them and society.
User avatar
#133 - samxdaxman (07/14/2016) [-]
I never denied that the popular music is shit and has a negative influence, all I said was there are more rappers out there with positive influence than negative. It's just that they don't subscribe to what the radio stations want to put out and rely on a faithful fanbase to spread their music by ear, not by radio. Here is good rap that has been released within the last year.

Aesop Rock - Rings www.youtube.com/watch?v=npcGql9Ir6Y

Homeboy Sandman - Real New York www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAtbYlq9OHQ

Watsky - Tiny Glowing Screens pt. 3 www.youtube.com/watch?v=GglsBHdKDBk

MAYDAY - Fuel to the Fire www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pp3tJzbUok

All I'm saying is there is good rap and bad rap. KRS-One(who started as a gangsta rapper, realized how shitty that life is, and became a leader in the culture for intelligent rap) stated it best in this interview Start at 5: 03 www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxBeYkmIu5E when he said the stuff on MTV is all "little boys" and real rappers outnumber them, rappers who are "men" in his word. It's all about what is put out by the radio rappers versus those who truly stand for what the culture started as, a voice for people living in poverty to be heard .

Hmm ok I think we're on the same page.
I agree with you on there still being good rap. (I wouldn't be listening to if there wasn't). And btw these tracks are dope.

I guess I'm just stuck on the fact that good tracks are not being listen to enough.
User avatar
#136 - samxdaxman (07/14/2016) [-]
Glad we can agree, and thanks haha. I try to share my music tastes to anyone who will listne to try and dispel the stereotypes about rap. I think it could be one of the best(at least lyrically, not musically) genres of music out there, but it's tainted by the popular ones who give it a bad name and know nothing about the roots and where it came from.
User avatar
#88 - wheteverlol (07/13/2016) [-]
No I don't listen to rap by myself but when others listen to rap and make sure everyone around them listens to rap as well, most songs talk about gangs, killing others and hating cops.
User avatar
#126 - samxdaxman (07/13/2016) [-]
"I don't listen to rap"

Then how the fuck do you know what most rap is about? If you did even the slightest bit of research, you could finds dozens of artists who make music that doesn't fall into the guns drugs and bitches stereotypes.
User avatar
#129 - strobler (07/13/2016) [-]
Yes, but you're ignoring "MOST". What is wrong with you. Research also back him up see my #128 comment.

User avatar
#89 - ljxjlos (07/13/2016) [-]
Then don´t judge.

I listen to shitloads of metal and shitloads of rap and like both genres. But in general, there are more heavily intelligent and good writers in rap then there are in metal. The whole gang/killing/anti-cop stuff is only a very small percentage in rap, just as Brutal Death Metal is only a small part of all metal music.
User avatar
#128 - strobler (07/13/2016) [-]
haha what the fuck are you on?!?
What you listen to is not what most people listen to. Get that.
In general rap IS ABOUT "fuck tha police" "kill these nigga" and "#money&bitches".

Just looked at what was the newest trending popular rap on youtube and what did I get?

Fergie - M.I.L.F. $ www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsUWK-fixiA

Future - Low Life ft. The Weeknd www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_9tX4eHztY
"A low-life or lowlife is a term for a person who is considered morally unacceptable by their community"

DJ Khaled - I Got the Keys ft. Jay Z, Future www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFLSOIufuhM
As in, he got the keys to the prison cells.

And then there is this piece of shit: Lil Uzi Vert - Money Longer www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eoSanFCU-M

What are you even trying? Saying that most rap isn't some violent POS is pretty dishonest, and YES you can judge something even though you're not part of it. you have to be prudent, but it's not like a 5 year old couldn't see that the rap industry is full of lowlife trash.

I was mainly just trying to get a quick analogy here. I hope you still can see the point. I knew some guy who once went to see Korn in their bus. While some people tend to think, according to the image they display, that these persons do drugs and drink as fuck, he told me you can't even smoke a cigarette in their bus. In summary, it is wrong to assume that show business personality actually are what they show us on stage. No need to stop on details here.
